Gatormark91, thanks for the reply! In all my years of driving I’ve never had to have any front or rear diff work. When looking for a shop that rebuilds diffs what kind of shop does this kind of work? An axle shop? Transmission shop?
The shop I brought the diff to for rebuild specializes in differentials. You want a good driveline shop, at a minimum.

I’m guessing the carrier bearing. The Toyota dealer said to replace front diff.]
I had the dealer check and it’s definitely the front carrier, I put it on my jack stands as well and confirmed. The fluid looks like diesel oil.

Dirty fluid doesnt indicate anything other than poor maintenance.

And just because the dealer told you (ie: tried to sell you) doesnt mean it needs to be replaced or rebuilt. One would need to pull and open the diff to measure run out, clearances etc to make that determination ( unless the ring gear or pinion grenaded)

**Please describe the symptoms are you experiencing- what you told the dealer.

Fwiw the bearings seldom fail unless you had water in the diff for an extended time frame. Worst thing that happens over time is the lash increases and that can be adjusted, or the ring gear or pinion gets shredded.

Fwiw- you've already ruled it out - but importing parts worth over $800 may be subject to duty and additional import fees - not worth it on expensive items.

There is a whirring/roaring noise coming from the front and when you let off on the accelerator it becomes more pronounced.

Checked wheel bearings definitely not that. I’ve had 3 shops look at it now and they are all telling me the same thing.

I realized OTRAMM is only an hour away from me, my next call is to him Monday morning.
