Update today:
Repaired the area by the priming pump. Seems like some of the hoses had deteriorated and it was sucking in air slowly. Tomorrow will be the biggest test to see if it has still held it's prime. Replaced the diesel filter and some wiring too, so everything should be good there.

Also did an oil change, and replaced the oil filter. So things are going well

Great news! The priming pump is sorted! Trimming the hose and replacing the clamps fixed the issue. I have a spare priming pump on hand now with a diesel filter, so that's great - although that requires some modifications to fit.

Service worked wonders. Put the actual 15w-40 oil in. Before it had 20w-50. So will really see how it does later in the new week, we'll be driving about 1500km with her. I added some more stop leak in the hopes it helps by the oil pan/rear main seal leak I have.

A few things left to do: Fit the secondhand power steering pump I got. Should have done it yesterday, but I was lazy. Buy another fog light cover (I replaced the cracked one (Right) and then tried to get the left one refurbished). I now have a mint fog light with a brown ugly one haha. At some point ALL the wiring will need to be redone, but that is SO expensive. Replace the globes with something better.

Anyone have an idea how the vacuum lines work on these Prados? I noticed that some vacuum lines weren't fitted at all. Which is strange because the idling is good, and there is plenty of power.

Haven't done too much on the Prado - haven't needed too! ;)

Drove about a 1500km round trip recently. There has been something that isn't really great about it, and that is the fuel consumption which has got me shocked!
On the first stint approximately 300km, the fuel consumption was about 7.5km/l (13odd liter per 100km) :O, the second stint, about 200km, it was about 8.1km/l (12odd liter per a km). I just stopped looking the rest of the trip, cause it was making me a bit unhappy haha. I'm not sure that seems correct for the 3.0lt KZTE. I was expecting on the open road something closer to 10liter per 100km.

Now, the driving, we didn't go over 110km/h. The tyres are oversized, but we were on the open road, so don't think that would have made a massive difference. I also removed the roof racks. So, I think I need to start diagnosing why the fuel consumption is that high. I will start with the fuel line I think, since it still isn't holding prime.

The injectors were serviced, but not sure what that entailed, since that was before my time. I don't think the diesel pump has been touched at all.

Any suggestions you may have will be welcome :)
 
Tires can and do make a difference! First you have the (likely) increase in mass, which requires more power to get and keep moving. Then tread, if you're running mud tires/knobbies, you're taking a hit. Lastly, are you correcting for the new tire size in your calculations?

Not to suggest other things may be going on, but I'm just emphasizing the hit tires can make. Understand that as you chase this down.

The tyres are BF Goodrich A/T. They're only 1 size bigger (so 265/75R16 instead of 265/70R16). The speed on the speedo vs the speed on the gps are almost identical (1 or 2 km/h out) and then I noticed that the distance matched up pretty close as well between the odo and the gps.

I am going to be going to the original sized tyres soon - probably end of March. Will do a test again, once I have changed them.

Cool. What load rating (SL, C, E) were the old tires and the new tires? If you have E-rated BFG's, those are some heavyass tires and would definitely impact fuel economy.

I went with 245/75r17, a bit taller but narrower than stock size. Consistently doing over 9km/L with an auto transmission on my 90.
