wonky display of avatar

the avatar file uploads fine, but the sides are cut off in the display

for example, my current avatar should display the entire license plate

avatar's are square...you need to adjust the original image you upload

darn. Can't upload the square version. I am down to 75x75, B&W, low rez and it's still 15kB (edited with Photoshop elements). Is this a sign that I should go back to my favorite flight attendant?

I had no problem with 605x605 pixels - automatic size-down

as in you uploaded a file bigger than 10kB and the soft sized it down for you? It's not doing that for me...
