I ordered a set of Landtank DIY panhard joints from Wits End. Looking at them on the site I assumed they were the same piece just one for the front and one for the rear. I received my partial order today but only one joint with a note that said the front would ship soon. This lead me to believe the joint I received is for the rear. I looked on the wits end site for directions but found none. Has anyone used these to build an adjustable panhard bar that can share how they installed them.

I know they should be installed on the high side on the pan hard. The joint that I received has one side that spins freely and the other end seems fixed but looks like it is just threaded in. I feel like it should be welded to ensure it does not move. There is only one jam nut, so I expect it should be paired with the end that moves. I also plan to orient the joint so that the jam nut tightens on the low side of the joint when installed. I might also tack it in place after I confirm it is where I want it.

I did call Wits End before I ordered them to ask some of these questions but have not had my message replied to.

If you have used these before please share. Are the joints front and rear specific? How should they be oriented?

I will add a picture of the joint I received for example.

First, I’ll apologize for not having the front joint in stock. I’m hoping to receive them prior to my vacation to get that joint out to you.

I Thought the instructions were on the wits end site, but it’s pretty easy.

on the end at the frame measure 3” in from the center of the bushing and cut the bar in two at that point. Then cut a 3” section out of the lower section of the bar.

fully collapse the joint with the jamb nut in place and weld the sections of the bar into the joint making sure they are fully inserted into the joint and the ends aligned to each other.

Then install and adjust as needed.

I’m out of town right now but can post a diagram when I return home on Thursday.

After thinking about this. While I’m confident about the instructions it’s also been a while since I installed them. If you do want to proceed take some measurements to ensure the cuts will allow the joint to me installed as described and the final length will be slightly shorter that stock.

You are the perfect person to answer my questions, thanks for taking the time to do so. Your answers help.

No worries on being out of stock on the one, I understand that happens sometimes.

What is the difference between the front and rear joints? Could the rear be modified to use on the front panhard?

@landtank was correct, the directions are on the Wits End site. They are located in a download section you need to search for separate from the product selection. I have attempted to copy the link for others that might stumble on this thread. I also attached the PDF directions here as well.

Landtank, thanks again for your time, so I did not find the directions sooner.
