It’s moving forward for sure. I am 99% sure I’ll be doing a replacement TRUE locking steel door using a Medeco lock. I just need to get the door mocked up with the lock in place so that I can make sure I have the cam slot in place plus anything else necessary.

Put me down for one when available.

Yeah I'm making like 20 or so of these. Not 500. Economics of scale is not in my favor on this project. I'm making it because I said I would and because I need/want one for myself. At $75, based on the stuff I've developed in the past, I would maybe approach breakeven. Sorry but I'm not making those mistakes anymore. ;)

Why not take preorders with max price break at 20 units, and if interest is substantially greater, then adjust price accordingly?

Have we determined if this will work for a 60? If so, I would be in ... depending on cost.

Have I missed something, but what is the replacement door going to look like?

So the original idea was simply for a metal box with a locking door that looked close enough to stock to not attract attention. @NLXTACY took that idea and ran with it. I think this is going to be a nice stealth upgrade.

Did someone every post a photo of the 62 box taken out so you can see the ECU? If not here is mine. Please make one for the 62 :)

Just a quick update on the insert and corresponding replacement locking door.

Door will be steel or stainless. Need to decide. Will have a Medeco lock. Final design will likely have a flush lock and still have cup holder bracket on the inside of the door.

NLXTACY...very nice and well designed product, Sir...my compliments to you! I’m well aware of the effort necessary to get a project like this up and running. I’m usuallly not an aftermarket replacement kind-of-guy but this project actually replaces and improves upon one of the few and a woefully inadequate areas of the Land Cruiser cockpit.
Hopefully, us fellow MudHeads can take you past the initial 25 projected units and reward you with a nice profit.
If possible, I’d like to sign-up for the initial FJ62 run. I’d certainly vote for the stainless steel door, maybe as an option, that could be polished to a one-of-a-kind addition to the front cabin. I’d certainly pay a premium to maintain your profit margin on this option.
Again, nice job!

I could go either way as far as plain steel or stainless for the door. Plain steel I would get powdercoated to match the rest of the dash so it would look stock, and stainless I could polish up to look to look real purty.
