NLXTACY...very nice and well designed product, Sir...my compliments to you! I’m well aware of the effort necessary to get a project like this up and running. I’m usuallly not an aftermarket replacement kind-of-guy but this project actually replaces and improves upon one of the few and a woefully inadequate areas of the Land Cruiser cockpit.
Hopefully, us fellow MudHeads can take you past the initial 25 projected units and reward you with a nice profit.
If possible, I’d like to sign-up for the initial FJ62 run. I’d certainly vote for the stainless steel door, maybe as an option, that could be polished to a one-of-a-kind addition to the front cabin. I’d certainly pay a premium to maintain your profit margin on this option.
Again, nice job!
Ditto! I swapped the dash from my '89 FJ62 into my '86 FJ60 project vehicle, and transplanted the 3FE, so I have the ECU sitting under there in the stock FJ62 location. Trouble is, the matching glovebox door still has the shift information from the FJ62, but I also have an H55f and modified my front drive engagement to manual to replace the vacuum set-up. So I was planning on using the FJ60 glovebox door, but the grey is much lighter than the FJ62 dash. I'll definitely want an FJ62 compatible version.

Update:

  • No fuse box, I’m gonna let you folks decide what you want to use. If I go my route it’ll be overkill that I’m not sure this crowd will need :P
  • I have set the lowest shelf height at 1", shelf flipped over will give a height of ~2.5" from the bottom.
  • USB port Has been moved to the right side where there is more room.
  • The limiting arm is necessary. Otherwise there is nothing to stop the door from opening further, which would not make it a very useful cup holder.
  • The internal cup holder bracket will actually create a place to mount the limiter arm, The bracket will also be spot welded to the door.
  • Lock will be flush, mounted to cupholder bracket. Originally it wasn’t going to have the cupholders but adding it solved two other issues.
A mock-up was test fit this weekend. Overall, I would say it fit better than expected for the first try. Made a few quick updates based on some measurements. I did encounter one issue, I had to cut out the right rear upper corner. This was right by the harness. I did not appear like there was much flex right there in the harness, we may have to go back to notching that corner. Dunno.

Attached are a few screenshots of thoughts for the internal door bracket. Spot welded on the tabs.

Glove box insert can be made to fit a 62 if the floor was raised 1/8" - 3/16". The ECU does sit higher than the dash flange in that area. We would also need to shift the holes in the bottom face towards the center of the vehicle, to clear the ecu. Other than that, the 62 OEM insert looks identical.

Thoughts on the cupholder?

I'd be just as happy with a flat surface, maybe textured or with a rubber coating or even just a piece of rubber. Unless it will be deep and stable enough to hold a cup etc while driving there is no need for the cut out shape.

Well that bracket kinda needs to be there for the lock and the limiter. The cup holder is just a feature that gets duplicated from the stock.

My thoughts on the cup holder....
Door to the glovebox is rarely opened, let alone used for anything other than maybe a table when I am searching in the box for something specific in the glovebox. Functionality of the cup holders would be a "nice to have" in my mind but not a necessity.

The U-shaped design you have seems a bit odd, what is the benefit of the U vs. just a hole?

Looks like the main purpose of the cup holder is that you needed something else for the bracket/arm to attach to and something to allow the lock to flush mount. Is that assumption true?

New cup holder concept. You can either go cup holder, or no cup holder. Could also use the bolt pattern to mount a plate with shorter standoffs that could have a cut out to hold a tablet, etc. But it can be optional, cheap and you can make up your own thing to mount what you need to.

I am going to quote out the door/plate in mild steel and stainless 304. I'm not going to ship any of my stuff in raw steel. Just ain't going to happen. It can rust too quickly and easily and I don't want any negativity because of it. So if its steel it'll be primer painted. If its stainless then I will leave as is and you can do whatever finish pass suits you or just paint it.

Looks good man, super stoked about this. I would suggest going with the cheaper option first and then add the option for the Stainless door a little later. Any particular benefits with the stainless over mild?

Thanks for making cool stuff for us 60 guys, I’ll be in when my original gives up the ghost...
I do have a question, could a stock door be bolted up? I’m attached to my cool stickers lol...

100%. The insert is standalone.

The main reason for the upgraded door is to have a functional lock. Everything else is ancillary.

Rust is really it. On my end, as long as price isn’t too bad, SS is best of both worlds.

if you do the cup holders in the door you will do some sort of small door retainer for the stuff in there while you have the main door with cups on the holders ?

Also have you thought of making a mini fold out table as another option so you could store stuff on it while you are digging to the back of the console or use it for food.
