Hey everyone! Just curious if any of you all out there have wired up a brake controller in your 100 series. Does my 99 have a tow package set of wires or am I tying into the brake wires myself? Any help would be appreciated on this. Thanks

My '04 was stupid simple, since there was a plug adapter under the dash. Not so on the '00. But still not too bad. Several threads with great instructions on here.

ive got a 99 with a break controller installed (didnt do it myself) I can take a picture where the wires come together in the back by the spare later if youd like to attempt this yourself. If your electrical/ mechanical at all it seems like a 2 banana job. I kick myself for not doing it myself!

While you're at it, you should wire in an aftermarket circuit-protected wiring converter on a dedicated/fused power source direct to the battery. When bad trailer wiring or shorts feed back into the factory wiring all sorts of bad things happen and your cluster can light up like a Christmas tree.

If you plan to use the trailer plug aux charging power pin on a 7-pin plug to charge batteries while running, you're going to want that to be a large gauge, direct run to the battery. Figure out your cable run length with string or something and then use an online calculator to determine the required gauge. Fuse it at the battery. An upgraded alternator isn't a bad idea either if you do this.

Here's a 4-pin converter kit for a MY 2000 from Tekonsha.
2000 Toyota Land Cruiser Wiring - Tekonsha

I have this and a Tekonsha brake controller in my 2000. I stashed the converter in the jack cubby.

Bumping an old thread. Do the '05 models have the brake controller plug under the dash? I'm not with my truck at the moment to check and need to order one of these suckers before I get back to it.
