My '74 has a 30 amp fusible link straight off the battery, but have no idea if it's original or a previous owner's install. With the 30 amp gauge on the dash and I assume a 30 amp alternator, that seems pretty reasonable.
But I don't really have any high amp accessories installed and the wiring has been overall pretty stable for me after owning it for 4-5 years, and I'm always careful to make sure if there are loose stray wires they are taped up (at least) to avoid shorts.

Caution here guys!
Fusible link wire needs to be FOUR times smaller than the wire it is protecting! The wire is not rated in AMPS it is rated by SIZE in mm sq.
Examples:
A 10ga wire (like the charge wire on the FJ40) would need a 14 ga fusible link (2.0mm sq)
A 12ga wire would need a 16ga fusible link.
A 14ga wire would need a 18ga fusible link.
A 16ga wire would need a 20ga fusible link.
