I'm in the process of locating the Door Control Receiver in a 1998 Australian RHD 105 Series Landcruiser.

Although I can not find it. I've ripped apart most of the car and still can't locate the thing.
I've looked in the usual areas, need some help.

I have found however, a black rectangle box that has a small antenna wire hanging loose from it. I've tried connecting another similar extra 30cm wire to this wire (antenna) and placed it into the middle of the vehicle and it did seem to improve the distance although sporadic and not working entirely on the other side of the vehicle (away from the box).

Wondering if someone knows if this is it? If it is , it's not exactly the ones I've come across on the internet. Very different.

Nothing in these areas, nothing under the steering wheel resembling this box either

Unplug the box and see if your remote still works. If not, that’s it.

Good idea. Do you know if people have any success fitting Generic Ebay Keyless Entry Systems and replacing these in the landcruisers ?

Ok so tried the remote before taking the plug out of the suspected Door Control Receiver, locked then unlocked successfully.

Unplugged the suspected Door Control Receiver unit and then tried lock and unlock the door multiple times right next to the box - nothing at all.

So there it is , found the keyless entry DCR unit in the 1998 FZJ105R Landcruiser Australian Model (RHD) :)
Easily seen on the Left Front Passenger side after taking out glove box and few other things in the way.

I have a plan to replace this unit , so will upload actual pics of the box later when the replacement has arrived.

Thanks @Ayune .

Here is pics of the cable that was connected to the unit. Seems it has two connection points. Also you have quite a bit of cable to play around with / solder if you can thread it out of the back of other wires/relays that surround it.

Now to put this all back together !

Are you just trying to extend the range? If so, I read in either the users manual or one of the other manuals (US) that the range is 3-5m for reception, so that is pretty weak in the first place. Best solution is to add something aftermarket, I am putting in a CompuStar remote start for my truck and the version I am going with has a 3000ft range. Will know more tomorrow night once install is complete.

That is poor range. Everything is getting pretty old in this car. Happy all the doors unlock and then lock though, and there is no problems with any of that, just this receiver.

Will be curious how it all works once you're done with your install :) What car do you have? I am looking at cardot PKE remote entry system atm, half way through researching. Notsomuch interested in bluetooth or anything , just cleaning up the keyless entry and making it a tonne better. From what I can see of the cardot systems on youtube test videos they actually work from good range. I am going to research this first before spending money - already anticipating wife criticising the job. lol

Post us some pics when you're done, very interested. Any wiring diagrams would be appreciated, haven't looked at that yet.

Note that I am not doing this myself, having a shop do the install. If you look on YouTube there are some installation videos that show how in-depth the install is for a remote start system. Most remote starts, at least the ones that I have looked at, are also keyless entry (unless you get a super basic model) thus it will control the door locks as well.

Mine is for a US 1998 100 Series Land Cruiser (IFS front, jealous of your solid axle 105!) and will be going with a Compustar System as that is what my friends shop installs and the wife got me a gift card for their shop for Christmas.

Ok will keep this info in mind. I imagine getting a dealer to install that would cost a fair bit. That unit looks killer though. Does it have a push button start or allow key ignition also ? I'm confused by their kits on their site.

Just checked out Alita storm trooper :) Neat rig. Yeah the solid axle kills the beach sand here, never used the IFS in the sand. I'm guessing this is why Aussies demanded back the 80s front diff. I use mine predominantly for fishing, camping and occasional family run to the city 430kms or so away. Here's my Rig: 315/75/60s ARB old man emu 2 inch lift or so, arb sahara bar etc

Going through her I did find a couple small issues...
1. "D" on the tree does not light up. Every other gear does though. Is this something that can easily be replaced?

Noticed this on your ALita thread. Replace the Alternator and take it through some corrugations, replaced old fuses in both fuse boxes. Take it over some more bumpy corrugations. I had the same issues in my 100 series when I bought it. D light now comes on every time.

You'll find the alternator will cark it anyway after you've been over a fair few thick corrugations. :)

Old wiring, old fuses and 'old' 'original' faulty alternator

yeah mine ended up being that the bulb was burnt out (read further in and you will see I replaced it). Got lucky with that one!

Yeah the site is a bit confusing. They basically have three different kits; Remote Starter Only, Remote Starter with Security System, and Security System. Basically from talking with my buddy, the systems are modular meaning you can add things along the way.

I will be going with a remote start system that will allow me to start the engine and get it running from up to 3000' away. However, I believe that as soon as I open the drivers do it will kill the engine and then I put the key in the ignition like normal and off I go. Not 100% on that though.

And my dad and his buddy were just back in your neck of the woods (so to speak) about this time last year. Spent two weeks wandering around Melbourne where he and my mom lived in the early 70s for a few years on a teacher exchange program. Actually still have my dad's tent that he purchased back there for camping and then brought back to the states. A large canvas tent by a company called Turka Tents, they are no longer in business though. When he was there he took all kinds of pictures of different Land Cruisers for me. So jealous!!! Would love a 105 with a 1HD-FTE in it or a 70 series (probably 76/77) with a D4D or twin turbo V8 diesel!!! We only got the petrol versions (and IFS) here in the US.

lmao :smokin: Yeah man they are $$$ tho, but super cool indeed.

The 105 1HD-FTE's diesels are what every1 dreams about here, but all getting in the super high km's now though.

People are still hunting for the perfect ones and still buying them for near $20k AUD over 500,000km's its scary. I couldn't be bothered waiting for 1, thick tires, lift and horses makes the perfect rig, won't climb steep sand dunes but goes anywhere lol

Yeah there doesnt seem to be a whole lot of love for the 1HZ but seems like there is some good stuff for it out there.
US market would love for some diesel love but for some reason we got no diesel love. Our market for the petrol IFS is all over the place too... I just paid $9500 for my 1998 with 193k miles on it which is on the higher side, but it already had an OME 1.5" lift, White Knuckle OffRoad Sliders, and practically new GOOD tires (Falken WildPeak AT3W Load E). Depending on year and mileage we are getting prices all over the place, add some tasteful accessories and we are seeing prices above $10k USD.

Ah highkick05 I have been searching for ages for my wireless receiver which I think was removed or disconnected. I have an Aussie Sahara and it's not in the read pillar as indicated on toyodiy.

Please can you post a picture of the unit for me.

Passenger front left kick panel. It’s above fuse box. Take out glove box and upper glove trim panel in front of AC. High up on left. Use a headlamp it’s black rectangular unit . 1 bolt holding it in. Couple of wire looms in front. You can wrestle it out. I have seperate thread on how to get better range out of it. If it’s removed you will have a gold bolt on firewall side with nothing on it or perhaps the grey bracket still attached

Thanks mate. Based on your pictures I don't have anything in that area, and I am missing the second part of that connection... previous owner thought the unit may have been removed.

Don't suppose you have a pic or part number of the unit by any chance? That part of your harness looks like it may be aftermarket...

Looks pretty suspicious that area. What is the black bracket for there? What are the wires in your fingers there for ? If they go to nothing I suspect someone has ripped out whatever they had in there - possibly an expensive Wireless Door Receiver system like a Viper or Compustar. Hell I would take mine out, just doesn't look like it has been replaced with anything. Can't believe how vacant that space is , mine was choccas with crap.

Would say our cars are similar, compared these and they are identical.

This is the WDR connector pretty sure, looks like its been tapped for possible door open/close triggers and potentially something else.

Check that out for more pics of mine OEM setup. Not sure about part numbers, I tried look a little but just looks too hard to find on our model.

Perhaps someone else can chime in with the part number. Or just put a viper/compustar or AliExpress one. I went and found all the wires and drew up a how to for myself to put in a compustar one . All I had to do was go fit it, but managed to save the old one by relocating it. It works, still not from miles away like most cars but from about 5m back.

Yeah those wires I'm holding go to an aftermarket unit that is usually sitting in that empty area, the wires have been joined into the main harness which is why it looks strange.

The WDR part number for my cruiser is meant to be 89741-60380, and seems like it should be located in the read left D pillar. I opened it up yesterday and see an empty connector which looks right, so trying to locate a unit from a stripped cruiser to test if it will work if I plug one in.

I feel like that connector I'm holding might need to connect to something that runs to the rear if the vehicle...

I'd stay away from the OEM unit . It's rubbish. May I ask what is wrong with the current A/market unit ?
