I've usually ran blizzak's on my other vehicles, but I'm not seeing any available for the LC. Any suggestions?

They make them. The model would probably be the dm-v2. Tire rack and discount both have them. I mounted them on 18" tundra wheels. There's also the W965 if you want an 'e' load rated snow.

If you're not fixed on a "dedicated" winter tire, my AT KO2s got me through 12-14" on unplowed backroads last winter. Not even a hint of a slip.

Another K02 fan, although I'm trying out the STT's this season...what tire do you have on your LC currently?

Took my STT's out last weekend on slick roads. They performed amazingly and I've ran blizzaks on a WRX and various other A/T's on trucks/suv's.

BFG KO2's all the way. Went on a 30 mile drive yesterday on forest service roads in 8" of fresh snow without any issues (no lockers, no CDL engaged). They also work really well on snow packed roads, you really have to try to make it slip.

In addition they have the snowflake symbol and count as "traction tires" where required. Last winter I drove up to Mt Bachelor to ski every weekend and they didn't even flinch in the snow.

I found my Blizzaks at Commercial Tire in Boise...I also found a set of zero-mile Tundra 18" take-off rims. The alternate with Toyo AT II's on oem wheels when it stops snowing. This year that may take a while. ;)

Personally, snow isn't the reason I run dedicated snow tires.

If you've ever watched every car around you suddenly slide sideways off a black ice covered highway at 60+ mph while you escape with slightly soiled underwear, you gain an instant appreciation of that fancy tread compound. :)

General Grabber AT2s have not failed me in snow. 285 75 16s have the snowflake symbol.

Only slip if I make them

I'm having General Altimax Arctic 265/75R16 installed today. This is my 4th vehicle to have these tires. Awesome winter traction, and they wear like iron.

My only concern with all-terrains is the performance on ice. Deep snow I'm not too worried about, its the black ice and packed snow on top of ice. I've currently got Michelin MTX m/s

Hmm....why does tirerack say those are not available for my 02'?

Because the factory size (275/70R16) is a bit of an oddball, try searching by size, 265/75R16 (0.5" taller and 0.4" narrower) for example.

Been really pleased with my Nokian Nordman5 SUV's (275/70/16).

They handle better than my summer tires and re quieter too. Most importantly snow and ice handling is awesome.

My entire life I have always been convinced BFG A/T were the best all around tire for snow and ice. Last year I ran some duratracs, and I do have to say they are better than the BFGs in my opinion.

I've run Duratracs in a host of vehicles from F250 crew can, tahoe, avalanche, and the 100. Very please with them

The 40 runs KO2 MT's and the 45 runs BFG AT's neighbor come close to the Duratracs in my opinion. In fact I had the winch on the 45 hard to a dodge pickup stuck in a bank and the AT's could hold the road to pull it out. In fairness I'm not sure if I had the Duratracs on it would have helped all that much.

I see all you guys who get real winters still suggest the BFG ATs -- is it the extra weight of the Land Cruiser + full time 4wd that makes them decent for you?

I never liked them personally because everyone and their brother runs them and what others told me about their experience, so I never joined the club. I'd say 2/5 of the people I know who have them, said they hydroplaned on water and/or slipped on ice at some point in ownership, even when they were at mostluy full tread...and this for CA winters where we don't get real weather. I always thought it was because they were relatively hard compound (to wear like iron) and lacked clear pathways for water to exit the tread. In all other terrain I can see them being great.

Never had any issues with my Duratracs, hope to get the same performance from my Wildpeak AT3Ws, so far so good.

Studded DT's in winter on the 100 - 2 seasons old. KO2's on the 81 year-round. The DT studs are worn, but I would say it's a tie. Both handle predictably, which is all I ask. The rest is not the tire.
