Windshield Replacement TX

Texas guys/gals. Who have you used? Im in Central Tx so I can go to DFW or down to ATX. Im looking for a installer that has worked on 100 series. I want it done right, rivets, trim, etc. Im looking for names and or numbers of people I can talk to about this. I appreciate it. Have a good weekend.

Land Cruiser Specialists (Edwin's joint) has a guy who's their in-house 100-series expert.

He helped me install new rubber trim / rivets & mentioned he'd be happy to help with glass in the future.

See if he'll do it. That's where I'd go.

Biggest thing is finding a shop that agrees to 1) not use screws 2) transparent / willing to show you condition (ensure no rust ... I had some that needed cleaning) 3) capable of installing rivets properly ... dealerships no longer really do it OEM style as tools / mechanics 'forgot' that skill + most installers will just use screws unless you micro-manage.

It's not a fun process for owners who are really serious about following FSM / wanting OEM quality.

Ive been in contact with a lady at A1 Auto Glass in Ft Worth off of Cherry Lane, they do auto glass for Jerry Durant Toyota and Sewell Lexus. I explained my situation and that i was looking for a re- seal of oem window. I told her its not a normal winshield install and she said yes, trim and rivets. Sounds promising.

Austin Glass Solutions is owned by a former 100-series owner ... they sealed my windshield on the last 100 I had before I ended up just having them replace it due to wind noise (they didn't do great with re-install hence why later went to LCS)... if you're not swapping out the glass they're a good local option as well

Don't go to Auto Glass Xperts in Ft. Worth. They're used by ~5 Toyota/Lexus dealers around Grapevine area and said they do plenty of 100 series. Guy said he only uses screws and would not even consider using rivets even if I brought them. He understood my reasons, but would not budge. Screw that, I say.

There was a guy who owns Elite Auto Glass in Lewisville who was willing to help me, and I think he would have been good, but the rivets I got from Toyota were too small once the old ones had been drilled out by PO, but I needed to leave TX so I didn't end up doing it there. He's sort of a stern young cowboy type, but saw that I cared a lot and eventually warmed slightly. Anyway, he was familiar with the need to shorten the riven gun nose piece as stated in the FSM and said he had already done that to his, which was encouraging. I'd consider him if you don't find someone else.

Incidentally, I'm looking at these (Swordfish 64907 - 25pc Aluminium Rivet with Plastic Cap for Toyota 841466149076 | eBay) as possible replacements that are plastic coated but larger diameter. I'm not thrilled about buying 25 of them just to test, though. Not sure if you will run into the same issue, but FYI. I ordered the side molding and rivet cover strips because mine were messed up. I also got the factory top molding rather than the bulk stuff they use, but maybe that is unnecessary. Now I just need to decide if I'm going with OEM glass, then have someone come out to remove so the old windshield so I can clean and prep myself before having them come back. The last install left gunk everywhere and I doubt someone else will take as much effort as I will.

Ive talked with people at A1 Auto Glass all day, asking question after question. I feel pretty good about them, im going to at least let them inspect everything. We are all on the same page about oem trim, rivets, clean and touch up paint, etc. I have too nice of an LC to be dealing with all this wind noise/whistle crap, i will go to the ends of the earth to figure it out now. I will update this thread when i know something.

That issue is one of a few reasons why I sold my last one!

This current truck has the OEM glass...a crappy replacement makes a big difference to overall noise/sanity.

Lexus of Plano uses Richardson Auto Glass. I have a gigantic crack in my windshield I've yet to deal with.

Sorry this is not helpful to locate an installer. Over at West TX, I replace windshields more than flat tires I get. How do you manage to keep a windshield without cracks? Construction trucks and pickups throw rocks all over the road and bumps right on to my windshield!

I carry a windshield repair kit at all times.

^^^^^I have this same problem in South TX. Not sure how others keep their original glass so pristine.

@nissanh what kind of glass repair kit do you carry and where did you purchase it?

Those are resin type and comes with a syringe and everything needed to fix it. Get it done as soon as you get the star crack. My first attempt cleared the crack may be 90%. See chris fix's windshield repair on youtube. I got the kit on ebay $4 shipped.

Previous owner ised a cheap glass replacement. Im in the DFW area, how much for a 1999 OEM glass? Is there a huge difference betweem OEM and “like” OEM that safelite and other sell?

Thought I would provide an update. Im picking the 100 up tomorrow. The guys over at A1 Auto Glass told me this am that they figured it out. They said they ended up removing the cowl and resealing the entire bottom of the glass. I also had them go ahead and fix a chip in the windshield. He said he got it up to 90, no whistle at all. I said damn, Ive never been over 75. So we will see how it sounds tomorrow, but im happy we figured it out finally. Someone was about to get a smoking deal on a badass 2003, if I had to live with that whistle.

A side note: I went ahead and ordered an OEM bug deflector. Im hoping it will help deflect small rocks as well as bugs. I know some people hate them but im gonna give it a shot, might end up in the garbage.

A&M glass at Shiloh and Northwest Hwy (Dallas). These guys know their stuff and have worked on numerous LCs. I was getting water pooling in the DS floor. Took it to them, I initially told them I wanted a new windshield because I have a few chips. John took it around to their bay as I waited up front. About 10 min later he came up front to get me and walked me back to the bay it was in. He showed me that the PO must have had it replaced at one time because when they installed the new glass they put screws in the channel but only every other hole. Whoever did it just drilled out the rivots and only put 2 screws back in per side, it takes 4 rivots per side. They told me they wouldn't bother with putting in a new windshield until the chips got worse. He put in 4 silicone coated rivots along with coating them with silicone from a tube. Didn't even charge me, just asked me to spread the word about their shop. 3 months and SEVERAL dozen pours later, my floor has remained dry as a bone. Also eliminated some wind noise I was having from wind coming in through the vacant holes. These windshields need the rivots, most shops don't know that, or don't care. Also, if anyone wants to know, they quoted me around $250 for a new windshield, which I thought was a great deal. Check em out!

I got no outside trims on A Pilar and all the holes are covered. Cabin is very quiet.

I hear ya. My mom got in the other day and i said, i want you to listen and tell me what you hear? She said, well i hear your tires. I laughed. She couldnt hear the noise at all. Im going to put on the big shield today and see what that does to the aerodynamics. Sometime this week i will start drilling out the rivets. Gonna take off all the trim and then blast the interior with air and spray soap on outside. Try to pinpoint the leak. Time to take things into my own hands.
