Does anyone know a good windshield replacement shop/person for my 100 series cruiser near Waynesville/Asheville, NC?

pfaffs auto glass in winston salem nc is one of the most trusted in the business. They will always use factory glass if it is available

There are no names here???
I dont know of any. I live near the Asheville Area and I have just had to fix a botched job on the A pillars from the last windshield person.

Might be better to learn how to do windshield replacement ourselves.

I am hoping someone comes up with a trusted glass shop. I just bought a '05 LX470 with 189K miles and joined the Lexus site to pull the service history.

Here is what really caught my attention---- something a PPI would not have caught.

At the 20K mark, the owner complained of wind noise and the Lexus dealer used sheet metal screws into the A-pillar to close up the molding gap.

At 71K, the owner complained of electrical issues. The dealer finally found a water leak so bad that the dealer had to pull the dash in order to replace the heavily corroded connectors and wiring harness. The dealer then subbed the car out to a local glass shop to fix/plug the sheet metal holes.

Now at 189K miles, I am afraid to see how the glass shop handled the "fix" and how much rust is now under the molding. I need a glass shop which knows these trucks.

I also learned a lesson about CarFax reports.

When I opened the CarFax all I saw was the holy grail - a one-owner 470 with 46 service records. The truck was very clean in and out and it had been serviced at a Lexus dealership its whole life- how could I pass it up even though the CarFax gave very little info on what happened during each service.

When I finally got to read through the actual history I found that the owner had declined many of the recommended repairs (leaking CV boots/steering rack/hose/ brake work/ t-belt replacement, driveline issues) the last three years of his ownership.

And of course, I learned that a Lexus dealer will fix wind noise with a drill and sheet metal screws.

I had mine done by Capital Auto Glass but they are in Raleigh. May be a bit far from you. Called at least a dozen shops in the area before settling on Capital. They've done a bunch of 100 series and were great accommodating my detail-oriented self in having the windshield replaced and using the correct rivets, etc. Awesome folks!

Bryan was the tech that did my truck. They even spotted a tiny area of surface rust in my windshield trim at the top above the glass and took the time to correct it and seal it up while the glass was out after I mentioned my concern about rust in the windshield frame.

Thank you Chris-- about 4.5 hours away. My fear is that I will end up having too much rust for them to simply fix on the spot. If it ends up being as bad as some I have seen on the forum, it would take days to remove and recoat. But at least I now know of a glass shop that has experience with the 100's.
