Hi, Based on the rear view mirrors I have:
One rusted 1968-9/77 windshield frame fully dressed
One good 9/77-1984 windshield frame mostly bare apart from a couple items.

The older one has:
1. Rubber grommets in the top corners
2. All the holes along the top are threaded
3. No Spray nozzle top center

The newer one has:
1. Holes but no grommets
2. holes but no threads
3. Spray nozzle

I'd like to transfer over the wiper motor and stuff, my hood has a spray nozzle.
Do I need to weld nuts into the newer frame if I plan to put an FST on?

40 is registered as a 1978 so I'm trying to make it match that.

Advice requested. Thanks,
Chris

Think your year range is off. 9/67-12/74. Then 1/75+. 78 model a windshield washer nozzle was added to the top of the frame. 75-77 models would need to be notched for the nozzle.

For a soft top model just a matter of adding nutserts for the soft channel. My newest windshield is off a 80 model. No fixed nuts but are there in the correct place for the OEM channel.

Yes FST = Factory Soft Top
I sourced my year reference fro SOR strictly based on rearview mirror so it could be off.
Checked the wiper motor and components tonight, the motor fits but the cover doesn't.

Looks like I'll be changing the motor cover holes and adding threads to holes for the upper channel. Oh also the plastic vents have a different system or something. I'll either find some big screws or a push-in plastic plug as the old one has stamped nuts and the new one just holes without the recess for the stamped nut to clip on and stay flush.

the mirrors may be the same but the frames are not . 74 0r 75 the motor was moved to the bottom if the motor is on the bottom they are pretty much the same .i believe early ones had a smaller motor and cover and that could be a problem, and the mounting of the washer nozles changed also ive found swapping toyota parts is usually easy just takes the extra parts to make it happen

Not Down Undahhh. Interesting, in all my hours of internet trawling and wreck crawling I've never even heard of this! Toyota went hood mounted when they introduced it late in the series for us. But we are upside down though.

Interestingly enough a fella down here on one of the FB groups had a few frames lying around and did a comparison. Turns out the frames are interchangeable but the glass is not. 1958-1967, 1968-1975, 1975-1984.

Not surprised since our hoods had a dummy nozzle in them. I know the US market required padded dashes with the 68 model, roll bar with the 74 model (FST & FHT) and disc brakes with the 75 model but a top mounted n washer nozzle doesn't make sense. Maybe some dumb test was required in the US market and for some reason the hood mounted nozzle failed. The others assume we safety test related.:meh:

My '78 45 (Canadian spec) has the nozzle at the top of the frame.
I swapped out for a '77 several years ago thinking they would be identical.
The glass is the same size, but the rear view mirror is different and the wiper motor cover is different. Neither of the "78 mirror and cover line up with the '77 holes.

glass on early models was smaller then went bigger 66 0r 67? with the gasket with the zipper .then they went to the one piece gasket and bigger glass.when the wipers went on top the wiring moved to the passenger side of the truck and so did the hole in the cowl for the wiring

Yeah I dunno hey. It would be a ball ache to find the FB post to ascertain this..
