Hello,
Can somebody check the photos attached?
These are the "channels" on my windshield.

The have this odd-formed plastic cover.
Is that the proper way to have them?

I'm tracing down a water leak on passenger side, and I'm wondering if the windshield replacement this vehicle had was done crappily.

Thank you!

I work on cars for a living, i can't see how any self respecting tech would do this to a vehicle and collect money, i'd be ashamed. That looks like putty molded by a 2 year old.

Agree, it looks bad.

The pieces of plastic that run within the channels should be there and they cover the rivet heads that hold the drip rail to the a-pillars. My guess is that under those plastic strips, you'll find something other than rivets, probably wood screws or just a whole bunch of adhesive. Also, I'd be worried that the carbon fiber strip that was added above the windshield was put there to hide more ugliness.

Ok.
So... any info on what's the proper way to fix this?
Should I order the windshield mouldings from the dealership?

Or should I order a "kit"? Is there such a thing?

Thanks for the feedback!

I would get the molding from a dealer. Also, you are likely to have rust around the windshield. There's a thread here where a member took off the molding, sanded down the rust, and apply the new molding.

I had the same problem without the water leaks though and my frame was rusted. P.O. had a s***ty installer did the job, there was loud wind noise when I was driving 35mph+. I had the dealer replace everything new and they sanded down the rust. Total cost was 1.7k, but insurance covered it under glass protection coverage. Check if your insurance CO, see if they can help.

I want to replace mine too, anyone have parts number in had for the left and right trim pieces?

So, question:
When the windshield is removed... are the moldings re-usable?
Or are they the type of moldings that "break" and have to be replaced?

Thanks

75543-60020 is what i got online, that's for the outer trims covering the ones with the holes for the rivets, the outer ones are 1/10th the price of the one with the rivets

Another pair of questions:
Anybody can share photos of what the correct way of having the windshield moldings installed?
And,
How many part numbers do we actually need to do this from zero.

Here are some tips for the left and right moldings (2x - p/n 75543-60020):
possible to replace upper windshield molding without pulling windshield?

A note about the TOP moulding, which I would replace in your case (1x - p/n 75531-60030).:

I can go and pull pieces off of mine to check if need be. They were recently replaced. Feel free to ask me any more questions!

This is also what I had to do with the rusty mess I found after the windshield was pulled:

Does anybody have links to an "authoritative source" that states the windshield moldings need to be new when replacing the windshield?

Something by Toyota / Lexus?

The moldings don't need to be new if they're in good enough shape to reuse. The problem with the main side moldings is that they have metal in them and they can get bent out of shape when removing.
