Dunno to much about winches, I have a peice of rectanglar steel a 4 by 6 inch piece that I am using for my front bumper and would like to mount the winch on top of it.

Will I need to buy a 24 to 12 v converter? Is there any 24v winches? How would I go about wiring it up?

Thanks in advance for any help

Warn makes most of their winches in 24v. There was a really good discussion in outfitting about different types (electric, hydraulic, pto) not too long ago. I think it is also a current thread in the 40 series forum. General consensus for your truck I am sure will be the Warn 8274-50 in 24v, except Wayne will say hook up the 12v version to 24v and watch it fly.

I bet it flies, warn sounds good to me, how much and where should I buy from? hooking a 12v up to 24v is that bad for the winch?

i have been doing it for qwquite some time now, couple years and so far nothing wrong. it really boogies and pulls like htere is no tomorrow...
down side, you need to be extra careful since the reaction time is cut in half as well. NEVER PUT YOUR HAND IN A PLACE WHERE THE WIRE ROPE COUILD CUT IT OFF!!

Where are you Eric? My friends at G&Scruiserparts have an OEM Toyota 24V winch for sale. It's from a JDM 74 series and mounts to the 70 series frame.

It is now in BC but in a couple of months I can bring it down along the US West coast.

What's the rating on that beast... just curious.

3200 kilos, or 7100 pounds.

It is a knock off of the warn stuff, like all Toyota electric. They rate them a little lower but I have never seen a direct side by side pull. The Toyota ones here have a great reputation. And the controler makes the warn one look like junk. Over heat sensor, will not run the winch if the battery is too low to start the engine, magentic block ont he back so you can set it on the hood and it stays in one spot.

New controllers are $1200.

Dave, what's the price on the winch in the pic? I am thinking that would look mighty trick on my BJ-73 . . . .

the winch in the photo above is sold.

I think G&S havew an other just like it.

Yes we do. Need to pull it from the shelf and take a current picture for the website, however it is the same series/model, without the mounts coming off the side.
