I am tidying up an old warn m10000 winch I bought. seems like warn no longer gives their catalogues on the website and their toll free line is down for the holidays. I have a couple of questions if anyone knows

1. are the hose clamp/straps that hold the solenoid box to the casing supposed to be a ground? I noticed there was no paint on the casing housing under the straps which seems odd. I am painting the housing and I would prefer to paint the whole thing. Ditto for the bottom mounting plate for the solenoid box to which the straps also attach.

2. where and how do you change the gear oil in one of these, or do you? and what kind of oil should i use?

thanks

Here's what I have...not much, though

I recently picked up a used M10k, as well. It's in really good shape - and where the solenoid is attached is totally painted - HTH.

Also, see below for a quote from "powderpig", when I asked about pulling it apart:

"The gear set can be a pain if you are not careful when removing the allen bolts. So unscrew the bolts and lift the gear set up to look at the grease. You may want to mark the housing and the gear set to know where you started, just in case you move it one way or the other. This removing of the bolts is also the way to clock the knob to the right position before mounting."

good luck!

the ground should be to the motor case- normally a bolt on the underside of the motor.

Good luck- i've had a number of ups and downs restoring and modifying my 30 yr old Bellevue.

the winch motor has a separate pos and neg wire going back to the battery. So, go ahead and paint the body as you want to. The solenoid box gets its ground from the mondo ground cable/copper bus bar.

As far as I know, they use grease in these motors/gears. I have the same winch since '99 and I prolly ought to open it for some TLC.

Can you do a write up on this?

Thanks.
