Does anyone have any pics of a mounting frame for an electric winch:cheers:

Yeah it's that big black thing taking up most of the front of my truck as you can see in my avatar.:flipoff2:

Seriously what bar do you run? Stock, alloy bullbar or steel bullbar?

Nevermind just read your sig line. TJM alloy bull bar. Will try to get some photos of my mates winch cradle on his alloy barred HDJ80.

Thanks. The price they want for them is rediculous I hope to get one made up and save some$$$$$$

My mate with the alloy barred HDJ80 is currently working away in the mines out west. Next time he comes home on a leave break I'll take some photos for you. He's a boilermaker by trade and made the cradle himself.

Found a pic of his truck but doesn't have the detail you need.
BTW, his is a TJM alloy bar with X9 superwinch.

Not sure if the Superwinch has the same mounting system as a Warn or similar. What winch are you planning to install?

I went ot the TJM Megastore this arvo to have a chat with them about the frame and it turns out that my bar is not a TJM but is a genuine accessory. It looks very much like a TJM bar but is not as deep in the centre which will mean the fair lead will sit higher than it should. Might be able to fab one up but will have to move the air tank and get the bar off first. Not sure which winch will go in there yet. First I need to find out if one will go in all right.

I recall on my mates that he had dramas with the freespool knob on the superwinch. He couldn't get clearance around it and had to chop a fair chunk out to get access. Warns (and copies) are clockable to make it easier to mount in tight locations. My winch is a chinese copy of a TJM OX/Milemarker 10,000lb and it isn't clockable. Mine still fitted my bull bar but mine is a ARB winch bar and they are cavernous behind there. We fitted the same model winch to another mates GQ Patrol shorty and had to cut the grill back to get the freespool knob to clear.

Is your winch one of those ones that Repco are selling. I think they are a Chinese made unit.

Yeah it's a Repco one. Bought it on special just before Xmas. Seems to be alright at the moment. Am planning to relocate the solenoid box under the bonnet in a waterproof box for waterproofing/security reasons though. Don't want my truck cut in half by hooligans doing the paperclip in winch remote socket/winch cable around the towball trick.

I had a look at the Repco ones. Are they any good. Have you used yours seriously and have you had any dramas with it. The price is pretty good but are they worth the money.

Damn, that sounds evil....hmmmm...

Yeah real evil you come back to your car and it's just about cut in half

almost all winches use a standard sae spacing. You can get the template from warn.com

The quality of the winch itself seems to be fine. When I fitted the one to my mates GQ shorty I pulled the gearbox end to see if I could clock it around so the freespool lever would clear. The internals of the gearbox looked beefy enough. The solenoids looked cheap and nasty but I plan to relocate and modify the solenoids anyway. The solenoids are probably fine but they're not as good as warns. The cable and hook look OK too. I've used it about half a dozen times since fitting it but not to recover a vehicle yet. For Clean Up Australia Day my local 4wd club dragged about fourteen car wrecks from the scrub around Hervey Bay. The winch got a good workout that day. It was mainly used for tipping the wrecks onto their roof so they were easier to drag out but we did winch one wreck up a steep hill which had the winch straining for about 10mins.
I've had no dramas with the winch so far and I reckon with the right PM it should last. Providing your not planning on using the winch in Extreme Winch Challenges every weekend I think for the price they are worth it.

I found a thread on the 4WD Monthly forum regarding the Repco winches. It was recomended to regrease and reseal them. No bad stories about them. Not intending entering the Winch Challenge all I want is something reliable if needed that wont break the bank. Only problem is making it fit. looks like it will have to be a custom mount.
