I just finished the install today and thought I would share. I used an XRC10 winch and a Harbor Freight mounting plate. I mounted the control box in the engine compartment and use the driver side air vent to lock and un lock the winch.

Nice, clean install.

Very nice job... sleek install...

hm, could make it even more stealthy with a hinged license plate, especially with a frame around it.

Ya my friend has a Baja bug and wants to take it out and see how it does after his engine rebuild. I guess a couple of Bajas and Heaps are going as well. I haven't really done much off roading with mine so I will probably be watching for the most part.

Clean install! I just fabbed up my HF mounting plate today. Waiting on the 12k winch to show up some time next week.
Did you cut that hole in the bumper for the winch or was it a factory "pop-out" piece?

Nice

I got the urge to order a winch today. Should be here later this week and I am going to do what you did! Thanks for the pics and confirming that it can be done with a stock bumper! While I was at it I ordered winch accessories (snatch block, d rings, straps, etc.) then I threw in a MV50 compressor because I might as well after ordering all of the winch stuff. Now I need to find places to get stuck!

Look at that, an OEM winch! :D
