hit at pot hole/bump on a 4 lane road doing 35 and something snapped in the steering, Luckily she just turned right onto the side of the road took out a couple of signs then hit a tree

The frame is buckled in right infron tof the shock mount on the pasenger side and the body is twisted on that side as well. not sure what my next step will be but she is pretty totaled
I walked away with bumps and bruises but ok leg was x rayed but just some deep bone bruises got in trouble for getting Wilma home first before going to the ER, kind of on house arrest now.
Tofally bummed

Sorry to hear man.

Really glad you walked away with just a few bumps, could of been a lot worse.

Time to throw that thing on an 80 frame!

Bummer JP. Glad to hear you weren't really hurt. Vehicles can be replaced for fixed.

What's your insurance coverage on her?

Sorry to hear Jason but glad you are ok. Just think if it had been a "normal" car you probably would be replacing bumper, grill, hood, motor, airbags, and all that other plastic stuff.

I have a pretty clean frame, front end parts and possibly other stuff if you end up going that direction. Let me know.

That stinx
glad you are ok
Wilma can be straightened, does not look so bad...I could do it or any big body shop should be able to pull that frame out easily, body didn't get hit.....buckle should flatten as you pull frame, lmk if I can help
Time for gears and tires....and hydro

thanks guys I am all over the place as far as what to do. I am going to call the insurance company in abit to see what my options are. unfortunately she is my dd but I ride my bike to work so she was only seeing limited duty anyway but there are times we as a family need an operational second car. too compound matters money is tight due to my employer, the department of Defense set to furlough me for 14 days this summer. I need to get all the costs lined up and see which direction to go. may fix her and sell her and buy an 80 I don't know.
still not positve the cause but it looks like the zerk fitting on the steering shaft blew andthe slip shaft sid off the D shaft not sure cause the engine is now moved over into the steering shaft path so that could have happened after impact. tierods and everything visible seem ok both hubs lock and unlock easily so without going in the hubs appear ok.

Good luck buddy. Try to bring her back. You spent way too much time in effort on her only to let her go like that. One question, if you fix her why woudl you sell her? The wife not thrilled about the girls riding in her?

Jason EXACTLY!! that and she is a "nothing but a money pit" :) and to tell you the truth I am a bit gun shy right now but we'll see.
Kina inbound pm
so I went the the accident site this morning to take some pics and see what was up. turns out not 50ft from site is the only auto collsion place ont he island that has a machine big enough to do frame pulls. like what would be needed. glad I had it towed home :( he told methat it would be anywhere from 500- to 1200 if it is not compromised to bad, or there is the new frame angle.
got back home and looked wilma over a bit more closely
The body: while it is a bit twisted and funky seems the passenger side pulled up and back an inch the drivers side all looks finethe passenger fenders is tweaked on the inside but that could be pounded out and would not be visable, over all it does not look to hard to straiten it all.
Frame: it worries me a bit

Culprit!!!! the last thing I noticed was that the passenger side motor mount the weld holding the plate to the U channel section that bolts to the frame mount was popped off. this would have allowed the engine to pin the steering shaft, but who knows for sure.

Josh I may take you up on that frame let me gather some more info though

Almost looks like the plate could have been the result of the accident. No?

It could have I guess it would explain why the steering locked up in that the engine is now moved over into the steering shaft zone. I don't know, its just one more thing that would need to be fixed.

Talked to my insurance company they are going to send out an adjuster to determine fix it or total it. if they total it I would definately buy it back, but I need to find a source for what she would be worth pre accident. I would think somewhere north of 10k but I am ofcourse biased, any suggestions for comps?

oh no...

Glad you are ok. It wasn't that long ago when Harry went off the road in his 60 from a front end failure. Brakes and steering are the most important maintenance areas especially on older trucks.

I literally just got off the phone with a local guy who lost his brakes yesterday. I've already replaced one hard line and he's now ready to replace them all

We live in a very aggressive environment and need to be diligent on routinely inspecting these areas.

The spring meeting is the perfect time for this.

I have an 66 LV appraisal if it helps with your insurance

I have a recent appraisal for mine if you want a copy...says it's worth 40K and almost identical to yours...even the same color. Registered and insured in MA with Allstate, State Farm previously in PA. The BB on these does not reflect the real value so this might help you argue it up a little.

Sorry to hear about the accident, by the way. I followed your build pretty closely when I was doing mine and learned a lot from you. My vote is to fix it, for what it's worth.
