Bummah kid. Sorry to see the old girl is sick. Surprised the airbags didn't go off. Glad you're ok

so whorl wind week Wilma is at cruiser solutions in NH. where they will appraise her and work with my Ins adjustor, my goal is to fix her and get her back on the road. will see, that is my goal anyway. my body is doing fine some short term memory loss, or I now have an excuse for not remembering what the :princess: says.

learning way more than I ever thought I would need to know about how insurance works. if I can pass on key points of my new found knowledge before I forget it , it would be; make sure you have a high medical payout, your regular health ins does not cover you in an accident, luckily I did not need to utilize mine but if I had it would not have been good I have adjusted my medical coverage from 5000 to 50,000 for an extra 16 dollars a year.and if you have restored your cruiser get it appraised. That is the reason why Wilma is going to cruiser solutions, mine was not appraised so this seems to be the best way to get a correct market value for her. or atleast more then blue book. they have looked her over today and were meeting with the apprasier today so I am just waiting the word. it is a pretty significant hit so . I will find out in the next few days what the course of action will be. they are apparently going to document the progress experience on their site http://cruisersolutions.com/
Ideally they could pull out the frame and get her road worthy and I can work on the body work at home but we'll see.

so cause is still not determined. looking more like the engine mount popped its weld on the pot holes and slid the engine into the steering shaft the shaft sleeve was bent and there are no other visible signs of why it would have turned right. the steering tracks fine with the shaft disconnected and hand moving the tires.

ok news
Insurance company is willing to pay half of what it would take to fix it which is 5k minus deductible and other expenses, or they will total it. at this point I can't afford to be without a car any longer and I definitely don't have the skill to do what it takes to get her even back to where she was. not only is the frame tweaked but most of the body mount ripped off and the body trapizoided as well. is she fixable? sure with a larger budget and time. so that brings up whether anyone else out there is willing and able to take her on. My insurance company is not paying out a whole lot so if total her and I buy her back in order to cover the buy back and all the other costs I would need to sell her for 4-5k if i just take the repair money and sell her as a repairable cruiser I would need 5-7k to make if financially work. oh and I need to make up my mind by tomorrow morning. so if anyone wants to buy her from me for parts 4-5k and she is yours if you want to buy her with title and be able to restore her and get full coverage price would be 5-7k
I am in the market for an 80 with lockers so a partial trade could be worked out I guess. not how I thought this was going to go but it is what it is

Something isn't adding up. So they are saying they will pay $5k or total it. This means that the residual scrap value, which your are thinking $4-5 with a salvage title, plus the $5k they pay to you is greater than the worth of the truck. So basically they are saying that Wilma was only worth $10k? Did Cruiser Solutions give you an appraisal? Sounds like they are low balling you and you need to fight for a better settlement? I know you said that you need another car but heck work something out. Buy a beater or somthing.

I recently had a leak in my kitchen ceiling. The water was coming in from an ice damn on the deck off my bedroom. Water dripped down on to the hardwood floors and they need to be sanded and stained. I chose to use a public insurance adjuster to submit my claim. He got me a check for a little more than $10K for the damages. For this service, I paid him 10% of the claim.

Does this type of person/company exist when it comes to automobile losses? I would find out, because you need to get more money from your insurance company for that truck.

Insurance offer for total 8300, i did not have collectors insurance so they will not pay out for more. they will auction it or I can buy it back for 2k but then I am on the hook for storage and towing fees so that brings it up to 3k so I would need to sell it for 5k to atleast get back to the 8300 and thats if it is totaled. if I get her fixed they will pay 4500 but then I am on the hook for towing and storage so thats like under 4k. as sad as it is I think this chapter in my cruiser life is coming to an end. I will not be able to pull kewl parts off of her or swap anything off of her due to her location

I know I remember you speaking about your policy when you first got it. Didn't you do an agreed upon value policy? Wasn't it like $20k you agreed upon? This doesn't mean that you automatically get $20k but means that if you can prove its worth $X up to $20k they should up to $20k. At that point it would be cheaper for them to fix her of the repairs are estimated at $10,000.

Where are they coming up with their appraisal. You DON'T have to settle. Tell them you would like to get it resolved but may talk to an attorney.

Sorry to hear it's not going well Jason. :( Hopefully you can find some sort of appeal process to, at a minimum, recoup some of your losses.

This should be a wake up call/warning to everyone with a lot of time and money into their old rigs... get an agreed upon value, or collector car specific insurance policy! Insurance companies won't pay out for all that blood sweat and tears without it.

I don't expect them to pay out for blood sweat and tears. Thats a labor of love. I do expect that they should pay fair market value.

I can go pick it up from tedd's and help you fix it, or store for free til you figure it out, don't let them f you any harder,
I have a frame machine I can use...
grab a cheap rental or beater for the next couple....heck you can use my 80 if you pay for the registration....and insurance:rolleyes:

Long Live Wilma

Did Cruiser Solutions give you an appraisal?

so total it, take 8300
buy it back for 2000
payoff tedd 1000

leaves 5300
tell me when to pick it up
you dont have AAA?
give me a call J

Kina that sounds like a good option but make sure it can be registered afterwards in RI or if there can be a work around through NH. I seem to recall a co-woerker having trouble with her sons totaled car after a non salvage repair shop fixed it. Just something to look into. Due to the age it might not matter.

To obtain a title, you must first qualify for a Salvaged Vehicle Inspection. To do so you must appear in person at the Enforcement Section of the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Before arriving, make sure you have:
  • Photos of the vehicle before it was repaired. You will need both side shots of the front and the back.
  • A legitimately ascribed Salvage Title.
  • All original receipts for parts used to repair your vehicle. Photocopied receipts will not be accepted.
  • The work order for your repairs. Photocopies will be rejected as invalid.
  • An insurance company appraisal report.
  • The original salvage repairer's certificate.
  • A $51.50 title fee. Cash and personal checks will not be accepted; please use only certified checks or money orders.
  • Front and back copy of the Salvage Title.
The failure to provide any of the above required documents will automatically cancel your Salvage Inspection Appointment. If you must cancel your appointment after being approved, do this in person or through fax (401) 728-0965 and provide at least 24 hours advanced notice.
If you have questions, you can call Enforcement at (401) 588-3006 or visit at:
  • Enforcement Section
  • 100 Main St.
  • Pawtucket, RI 02860

Yeah, I was being a bit word-fancy, but you know what I mean... to an insurance company, there is nothing special about Wilma, it's just a decades old truck. We all know better, but they will try to bone you any way they can.

Dave I'm sorry if it came out the wrong way. Not a dig at how you worded it. Just makes me mad how they are trying to take advantage of him.

I take everything Jason says as self righteous digs:flipoff2:

So this appears to be coming to a close, My coverage was such that it was perfect for the fender bender but I did not have a classic car coverage which is what covers the older vehicle in the event of complete loss. lesson learned, I think I prolly put 25-30k into her so I ended up lossing a chunk of change but on the other hand if my hobby was golf I would have spent that over the years in greens fees and membership so I do not feel that bad about it.

I did get them to lower the buy back, cover all of cruiser solutions towing and storage fees and up my payout. so I bought her back and sold her an hour later. I just don't have the time to do her again where as before my kids were taking naps and in bed by 7 I had loads of time that I had to be home now they go to bed after me and areon travel sports teams and my cruiser time went from 15-20 hours a week to 4-6 if I am lucky.

So I have an fzj80 lined up, and if that one doesn't work there are three more just like it and I will start a new cruiser chapter. Wilma will live again and is going to a land cruiser enthusiast prolly more so then even me.

Thanks for all you guys support I learned some unpleasant lessons and I hope you all learned from them as well. get your junk appraised and a collectors insurance on them. even you all with 80's blue book on a 94 is $1800 thats only guna buy you a Yugo
