did you put spacers on all 4 wheels or just the fronts that were rubbing? what the price of spacers? thanks; I am thinking of doing the same thing on my 91 LJ 78

Got any pics of the steel wheels on your 40? I'm planning on doin the same. What size spacer di you use? I got the dics brakes up front...

Thanks,

the wheels will fit but you have to get 11/4 inch wheel spacers off ebay search 6lug wheel spacers. mine were $62 a pair with fright and tax. should need only front deping on tire size. i have a 74 fj40 it has 95 4runner wheels on it (five stars)

Hey dude,

I always run the black steelies on my Toy trucks. So. I guess you're saying a 1" Spacer is necessary? Where the best place to get em? This is my first fj40 w/discs up front...

In SOCAL...

Is that Mike Charping's former truck? He told me he sold it & his Cruiser stash to someone in Rome, GA and then it resold to someone out west. Just curious.

If it is, Mike told me he had to have the center holes opened up/made larger at a local machine shop.

Don't you have to worry about wheel bearings running a wheel with different backspacing? I have heard of people running through wheelbearings because they are running a wheel which incorrect back spacing. Is there any truth to this?

Answer is - it depends.

A mild amount of offset is OK.

A lot of offset is hard on bearings.

I remember a rash of Chevy Van bearings going tits up in the mid to late 1970's because everyone wanted to run deep dish mag wheels and put 60's or 70's on the front.

Nik-

I run the wheels off of my 02' Tacoma V6 TRD on my 74-FJ40.

They're right...you'll need a 1" spacer in order to clear the tie rod ends on the steering nuckle.

Once they're on there....they look awesome!

Best of luck with you rig!

Wow, thanks for the info.

I was looking for spacers and I was wondering about New Model Toyota rims with spacers, and then this gem just popped outa' nowhere. I can't thank you guys enough!!!!!

Also, does this mean late model FJ Cruiser rims will fit too with spacers???

Best,

T

I've successfully mounted 15" taco alloys (95-00) to my FJ-40. MC Motorsports on Ebay has 1.5" spacers that have their own studs all CNCed out of Aluminum. I actually have more space between the wheel lip and my tie rod/steering arm, about an inch.
