I blew a radiator hose on the highway and messed up the 2F in my 81 FJ60. I have found a 76 FJ40 with only 70K on the 2F. I am thinking I can use the block and head at least. What kind of issues can I expect to run into?

To the best of my knowledge, a 2F is a 2F. You shouldn't have any problems using the block and head.

Good luck-

Is your '76 block tapped for the power steering pump mounts?

PS mounts will be the main pita..

I don't see a problem in fact my cousin have a fj40 2F on his 60 and it's almost the same think. the only diference will be some oil coolers, the PSpump ubication, the alternator ubication and other things.

Not sure about power steering - I didn't think of that - I will check tomorrow when I look at the 40. Thanks for the input.

Yes

Yes it will work you should have no problems with any bracketry

No, it will not fit easily.
The 78-earlier blocks are not machined/tapped for the PS mount.
The 80-earlier head is the open chamber, low compression, low performance type. It is not compatible w/ the flattop pistons in the 81-later engines.

The crankshaft and rods will swap between the 2 engines.

If your '81 head or block is toast, best bet would be to find another 81-newer 2F engine, either to rebuild, or as a running drop-in.

Isn't there a difference in the height of the rocker asembly? Maybe its just the valve cover. I thought the 60s have a shorter valve cover to clear the hood.

Yes, the rockers, studs and valve cover are all shorter on the 81-87 engines.
But all that stuff can be moved onto a 76 head.

It's the differences in block, head & piston that are dealbreakers.

As it turned out, the 76 Fj40 was in pretty decent shape for sitting outside for 10 years. Guess I will fix the 40 and try to rebuild the engine in the 60.

Thanks for all of the help.
