Every Pickup I've seen sell on BaT in the past year or so has sold for big money...

But the '79 that just sold - which looked really clean - just went for $8,700. It sold earlier this year for $10k but the buyer bailed.

Is the '79 not as desirable as the later Pickups, e.g. '83, '85?

That's really bizarre. I know that the late 80's ones are more desirable. I couldn't tell you why, but maybe it has something to do with the 22R? Who knows. The market is weird sometimes.

The 1979 has the weakest axle housing out of all the early mini trucks. In 1980 they added a truss on the underside of the housing to add rigidity. In 1984 they elongated the truss so the 1984-1985 Toy axles are the most robust.

I doubt that has anything to do with this, but still very bizarre.

I think in general people on buying on BAT will get into a frenzy. A 1st gen 4runner with the 3.0 and an auto just sold for 25k. WTH
Sometimes a car just misses for no reason. That 79' being one that missed for no reason. That was a score for the buyer.

Hmmm. My 1st Gen has a 3.0 auto. Maybe I should list it. I could use $25,000!

It all depends on what the seller will sell it for and what the buyer will pay.

25k is a tad bit ridiculous and whoever paid that has more money than brains.
