Toyota durability
Looks good even 17 years later.
Vary capable

Mine is stock for now and when i take it all the place that the modified jeeps go they always ask if I have lockers or limited slip. Mine has no lockers.

Just love it

After driving Toyota's all my life and beating the living s*** outta them .I was aware of the durabillity and the always got me home deal.
Friends and family have all owned or still own cruisers/ mini trucks. I have always been a fan of the 'ute . I like my stuff inside for some reason..I drove a couple old suburbans due to there shear size to fit all my junk. It started to wear out I Then bought a bro deal mini. hmm After the mini truck rusted away at 320 k I got a " deal " on a Isuzu. OOPS ..even though they are made in japan....not a toyota. Never again 3 engines later I began to look for another ride and not to loose a lot of cash. My requirements were easy to work on , be a Toyota, have 4wd , mechanically sound , good price. I started searching .. then i thought straight axle , straight six , lockers, ac, power stearing, sport utility larger than a 4 runner (which i hate the size hence the minis for the bed) . 31s and good ground clearence stock.. 80 series!!! My dad found one and I traded him the Isuzu with a warrentied motor and 2k on my 80

I was looking for a first gen 4runner and dreaming I could afford an 80. Found this and have yet to regret it

I realized hot rodding around in fast cars gets me in trouble with the law.

I got tired of hearing my wife say "you got ANOTHER ticket?"

Now I can tell her with all the money I'm saving not paying for speeding tickets, I have more money to put into the Crusher and we can go "camping, or off roading where I can't speed. Family time ehh?"

I'm still waiting for her response............

- Durability (!)
- Solid Axles
- Diff locks in both axles
- For travelling/expeditions, in November we are going to travel around Africa for a year!

The only 4x that counts

Grew up in Africa.. Dad was one of the NatGeo kind of guys doing research in the bush.. Learned to drive in a 70, drove a bunch of 80's and have been an adict since then. I just had to wait till they became affordable enough for my budget, but that was always the car I wanted! and there was just simply no other choice for overall comfort, and reliability.. And it sure beat driving a Defender with the stupid vent hinges, and the rattle can feel!
Anyhwere in the world driving a cruiser is a step or 2 above driving a benz, or anything else.. It's simply the car of choice for anyone in any country with even the ocational bad road. !!!

I was sitting at a red light in 6 in. of snow this winter, think it was a new Nissan Murano pulled up next to me. I hit the CDL switch and light turned green, left the Nissan just spinning there at the light.

Apparently I had a little free cash and never wanted that to happen, ever again...

Where in Africa ?

I think the 80 series is one of the best looking vehicles ever made. I absolutely love the way these trucks looks on or off the road. These trucks have soul...

Anywhere, anytime, all the time...... No other 4x4 can say that
