On a fair few but not all hj 75s ute's and troopys
i see they have these side vents which im sure are the same they have near the rear of the troopys
what are they for ,if only some hj 75's got them but not all ?
Why didnt they keep them through out the round headlight 7x series range?

From what i noticed , HJ75,s had them but FJ75,s didnt and think neither HZJ75 had them . Lets extra heat out i guess .

One of the great landcruiser mysteries, Ive often wondered about this. I do know that on a HZJ75 it gets really hot around that area when stopped.
I would like to inspect a HJ75 with the side vent on a hot day and see if I can feel hot air coming out.

i wonder why they heat a bit on the hz when the exhaust is on the other side ive never seen a hzj75 with vents besides the pics i posted and like dave said ive only seen them on hj75's non on fj 75's
would be pretty cool to put some in as im pretty sure they the same vent as the rear of troopys so very common to get , there size is about the same size as the factory hole size for genuine snorkles

The HZJ75 gets hot there because of its more open on that side. On the other side the air filter box, alternator and compressor are probably obstructing the air flow.
The air is getting hot from being pulled through radiator.

Maybe the HJ75 had an overheating problem, and in their day, that was the fix. I dont know if it even worked.
Its not like the air cant get out underneath:confused:
That top pic looks like a HZJ75

The top pic has no side indicators which means its 85-90 as the aust stds law whatever it is around 91 cars have to have side indicators just like the vp commodores and eb flacons come out with side markers unless its like my mates 79 series when replacing his smashed front fender he used a early one with no hole and left his side marker sitting inside the fender untill he could be bothered cuting a light hole in it
and the grill has a T not toyota so the gril is a 95 +
so my thinkings she's a hj75 with later model grill

As for letting out unwanted heat its a good idea so long as its not just a fake grill , and i like the retro look of it,loads of people putting hilux scoops on there cruisers to exit more heat these days as well,
if i see a hj75 with one in a car yard one day ill stop and have a squize

That vent is for the battrie

Why do only some of the 75's need them for batteries and not others

Btw i seen a hzj79 series today witha grill in it:hhmm:

85 to 88 did not have them. Then they started until HZ motors i think. They were for the battery which was put inside a box and that vented out through the vent .

all the cruisers ive seen beside yesterday with that 79 series have been 85-89 hj75 with the 2h and old metal grill

Are you saying they were put in at the factory? And if they are for the battery, why doesn't the HZJ75 have them ,as it has the batteries in the same position?
I nearly bought an 89 HJ75 and Im sure it had no vent or battery box and this was one very clean and original 75.

89 must not have them either.HZ has exhaust on other side. The box and vent wre done at factory,I was going to buy the lot and put in mine but I hadn't got around to it then bugger me they made a new motor and stopped making them. After 22yrs I have decided I don'nt need the box after all.

the ones into the body are for air compression when shutting the doors.
are the ones in the pics factory installed or aftermarket installs?

i know the cab ones are for the cab inside air when you close the doors ,i still usially wind my window down a bit to close the door easier ,Good point about are the fender ones factory but ive seen a fair load of hj 75s with them and cant see that many people cutting holes in there fenders for the vent and only hj75 owners doing it:hhmm:

I think they are aftermarket installed or dealer installed but Im not 100%.

curious, how much do those body conversions go for?

They wer'nt cheap mabye $15k+ but I heard that you could buy the parts for a DIY for about $6k.
Not many companies are doing them these days ,it became cheaper to chop down 105s and now 76 series.
Im still hoping for a factory 70 dual cab in the new year

there was a HZJ75 4 door (factory parts) firetruck at the Japan auctions a couple weeks back. 9000K and sold for $7K so landed here it would be $14K... cheaper than the time and money to build it. remove the firebox, install a alloy deck, custom camper in the making.

the site wouldn't let me download the pic... sure was tempting.

Are you certain they are factory parts?
All the JDM 75 series fire engines I have seen have the same doors as the aussie and south african dual cabs.
Ive often wondered if Toyota Japan imported them
