My test is tonight. Wish me luck!

:flipoff2: break a leg :flipoff2:

Seriously - good luck! What study materials did you use? I'm currently using West's book and have powerpoint presentations for all 10 'sections' of questions that VE's use to teach prep classes for the exam that I got from my old scoutmaster who's a VE himself and been into ham since the 60's. I just can't find enough concentrated time to get thru the stuff. Been reading the book of and on for about 6 freaking months now. Hard to retain something you've read 6 months ago.

Let us know how you do.

The West book (been studying for about 3 weeks straight everyday) and Qrz online Exam over and over and over until scoring 80% or better every single time. Scoring high on all 12 tests right now. Should smoke the test in 5 mins. Picking up the radio, antenna and mount tomorrow at HRO. Install will be Saturday AM. Im excited!

Also, dont forget before you take your test to go on the FCC website and get your issue FRN number. The FCC no longer lets you use your socal security number. The website will automatically generate you a FRN and you take that with you to your testing. If you dont , you cannot take the test. If your taking a test to 'upgrade' then you already have a FRN number. You can get the FRN number by heading to site and logging in under your calsign.

seems likely that an antenna tuned to 151 would do fine at 144. Difference is small, consider the type of compromise one does routinely with dual band antennae for example?

(ahem: even more black helos now... you're just lucky there are all these fires around, otherwise you'd already been nabbed... :D)

I agree the difference would most likely be minimal but it would be less that optimum. Not sure how much distance that would relate to but in an emergency situation it might be nice to get that extra distance.

Uh-oh, I hear a helicoptor outside, gotta go....

;p

Good luck on the test Dave!

I didnt know this. If thats the case 5 people (incl me) that took the test with me should have not been allowed to.

Oh well.

good luck Dave - youll pass tonight!

when I took mine something like 3 weeks ago or so, SSN worked fine, not that I liked to give it out...

It's a very new regulation. Probably wasn't enforced yet when you took the test. Wait, i thought you haven't taken the test yet?

Salamat Po Alan :D

I passed the Technician class exam today - there were a couple of Rover guys that took it too (hehehe I definitely made more correct choices in comparison - just joking).
...
Dave - good luck on your exam.

Usted es la bienvenida! Thats Spanish.

Try telling this to Yosh - "Kailan tayo magpapakasal?" Guaranteed to make the Alaska Trip 2008 a reality!
And dont forget to eat pancit daily.

the tech test is really easy. General quite a bit harder... Unfortunately (or not), I can already see that I'll need to graduate to HF before too long...

I don't know, that's just what West Coast ARC told me to do when i signed up for the test. So im sure they'll be expecting my FRN number when i get there. Maybe some clubs aren't enforcing it yet.

:eek::lol::lol::D:)

Didnt know I had an ARB and now Thai? Its not your fault Mo. I need to go out wheeling with y'all more.

Back to the Subject. Once I get a radio/antenn, Im for sure going to listen in first and get the process down.
Ive been checking the FCC site and still no records (application at least) of me.

Yeah, yeah, thats it you need to wheel with us more. It has nothing to do with my memory going with old age and post PEA x 3. Definitely not my memory. :o :doh:You never did tell me you are Thai though. ;p

Also I am glad that you didn't find any records on me at the FCC site either! :flipoff2:

You do need to get a radio and antenna, it sounds like there are alot more of us with HAM tickets than I thought.

Congratulations Dave.

Its not TAI it's Tagalog!

Dudes! I past the test!

First one done out of 6 people.

Blazed through it in under 6 minutes

4 out of 35 wrong

That Exam got OWNED!

It's not TAI, it's THAI. and the language is Tagalog! :D

4 out of 35 on the exam? It OWNED you! LOL
4 out of 35 on the General? yea, you OWNED!
j/k Congrats!

So what is your call sign? SOCALFJ? E9999?

Congrats Dave!!!

I must say, though, that I was expecting to spend hours of listening pleasure on the radio, what with hams, police etc... (Another reason to get a dual band.) A bit disappointing actually. Very little out there in the first place, and of that smallish number of informal ham chats a significant number of fairly inane conversations about the weather, medical problems and all... I didnt' get on a net yet though so that might be more interesting.
And unfortunately, no chance to use the radio on the trail yet since the few locals are still on CBs...

(FT, don't forget to put your call sign in your sig! :D)
