who's running a cd deck in a center console

I put a cheap (the cheapest) CD deck in a tuffy console - almost verticle -- it skips if the wind blows - I went for cheap because of wet / theft worries -- I did not want to feel bummed if something bad happened -- so if it gets killed / taken I am out about $50. The tuffy console works well (6 1/ 2inch for FJ40) and is convenient. One of the best things - it has a "mini" adapter in the front so instead of using CDs I use my portable mp3 player / ipod and plug it staright in the mini on the front of the deck-- 10 hours of music, no skipping - I am using waterproof speakers that I bought online for about $30 - they work well and again - if they get taken so what - I forget the website but I got to them through nextag.com i think

I am working on setting up the speakers what a pain to make it sound good and look good
however I got an ipod 5gb , a cheap Pyramid eq/ 100w amp with imput jack (I don't need a radio)
I have a pair of blaukpunt 6x9 with enclosure, speakers are great the enclosure is too ugly and large I think it will end up under the front seats.

a pair of JC whitney 4" 2 way speakers with my own custom enclosure a cube 4"x4" probally I will fit them somewhere on the rollcage behind the front seat and finally a set of outdoor speakers wich will go in the rear somehwere.....

For the people with ipods/mp3 players... the Eq/amp is perfect and only cost $19 at jc withney
they advertise it as 200 amps but it is really 50 x 4 channels but for $19 can't complain
since it has a minijack in the front all you need is a cable and you're set.. no skipping

I was thinking of installing a power inverter and run an older Mac with a large hard drive to play music and why not DVD's
If anyone is familiar with Macs you know that with Applescript you have it do anything you want without ever looking at it or click anything.. just start it up you don't even need a monitor
has anyone done anything similar any opinions ??

I have been thinking about this sort of thing for a while now, and I have pretty much got my set up planned out now. I am soon to be getting a metal tech cage, front profile, replacement rear, and hopefully have them bend a longer rear hoop that looks like the stock (don't know what it's called) and go with the double roll bar look. These will be a couple inches apart, and, hopefully, I will be able to weld two plates across the top and bottom of the tube, and put some speakers inside. the speakers would be sitting a little bit behind my head. what do you guys think? Cheesy? genius? ;)

Just buy a radio with CD changer controls and purchase an IPOD. 20Gb of total music without the issues of CDs. Just have your radio installer hookup some RCA jacks next to your tuffy console/radio. You can purchase a holder or leave it in the console; it is removeable so that you can listen to music anywhere you want. This is going to be the route I take. It may be more expensive than just buying a CD player. But at least it is one unit that houses all of my music rather than 25 CDs that I have to lug around and make sure there is storage for especially on those hot summer days. Yeah, keep the CDs home is what I say.

I have tuffy w/ cd

It works pretty well - really like the console since there is no place in the cruiser to lock up stuff. The cd player does skip if I hit a bump - som cds more than other. Yes, it is annoying. One thing (not by master plan) that I did was buy a radio deck that had a mini adapter in the front of it. Now I just plug my ipod into that and it works great - really great. I used some thin weather stripping to seal up the radio cover on teh console and it has kept tons of water out for two years now. Also - I wired in two cig. lighter apaters into it so i can charge a cell phone or ipod. FJ40 power is not very clean so my ipod gets interferance if is charging at the same time it is playing, have to do one or the other.

I ordered two pairs of KLH 970A indoor/outdoor 4ohm speakers. $20 per pair and they've got very good reviews.

Hey sizzle...let me know how those speakers work out for you. I'll have to put some tunes into the 40 soon as well and I'm always looking for ideas. I like that price to!

i've had them in for the last month or so. they've got a decent sound. almost no bass, but i never expected any. can't really crank the tunes way up, but loud enough to hear very clearly with no top or doors while doing 45 down the road.
