Hi All
I am looking for info regarding the new 7 series, gas version.
I wander what gearbox and transfert case are used on this model and also how good the engine is, performance, torque and fuel wise?
I am considering a new toy and i don't feel quite confident with the new diesel engines. And repair cost are huge on turbo, and the all injection circuit.
I know a lot prefer the HZJ version for the 7 series, but personally i don't find it very attractive, limited power and weak gearbox. (most of the peoples using them in north africa got problems, including a friend during our trip in algeria 2 years ago
. In the end this 4.2 NA isn't much fuel saver when loaded and pushed to follow the small group. Used more than my similar loaded and added roof rack HDJ80.
I know the FZJ is almost un kill-able, most of the one i see here in China are over 500 000km and run very fine. sometimes need to replace the carburators after 3 or 400 000. The down side is that this engine was very heavy and hungry, never less than 15l/100km cruising on highway or country side and it goes very quickly over 20 if a bit of energy is needed.
I wander how the new GRJ 7 serie do in this regards.
I assume toy made things right with this engine as they use it all over their range so reliability should not be much of an issue?
An other good point, the engine is light
, very light, something about 180kg for the engine itself
, weight power ratio is really good and it should have plenty of room to be worked on on the new 7 big engine bay
An other question, i have not seen this GR engine on a 78 body on internet:whoops:, doesn't toyota make it? that is the one i am looking at
.
There are a few company making supercharger for the GR engines, else than TRD, they got huge figures over 300HP and 600Nm, that sounds sweet.
Well, any kind of info on this models is welcome
