2000 with 88k
7 height sensors
4 accumulators
3 tilt steering motors
1 transfer case
headlight wire harness
every component on the rear breaks
Front bearings and all components.
CV boot.
Was told today at the dealer that 2 of the bleeders on the calipers are frozen which may require new calipers. $650 each
Currently has a squeak in the front end that the dealer cannot find.
All routine maint done on time.

Wow... You have some bad luck... I've been completely problem free in my LX except for some seized bearings that ate up my serpentine belt. Any chance of a lemon law?

2002, 72k.

Purchased Aug08 @ 55k. Oil change, coolant, ATF, brake pads, wheel bearing repack, serp belt upon purchase (dealer). New Michelins followed about 1k later. Brake light bulb Jul09. Oil changes between 5k-7.5k., dealer, dino (due for one now, should've taken it this morning instead of goofing around on the net). Stock Panasonic battery still going (knock wood).

Minor issues, such as:

Have the heat shield rattle, but only intermittenly (?) so living w/ it for now.

Little 'warble' at certain speeds when braking from rotor that probably needs machined; like rattle, I'll wait til it's worse.

Power windows getting a little slow (but not as slow as they were on my FJ80!).

Have the cold morning mysterious 'turbo whine.'

Slight clunk when turning at slow speeds; likely wear in steering rack bushing.

Rear seat 'chirp' that I've been too lazy to lube.

Couple small interior rattles over bumps; minor really, can live with 'em.

Little squeak in rear suspension over speed bumps.

Regular lubing (I stress it when I take it in for oil changes) has eliminated the famous Cruiser Clunk for now.

Debating doing the 90k service sometime this year, since it's an 02 and probably should be at 90k by now. Might go fresh battery and starter contacts as preventative. Fresh oil in the diffs & t/case would probably be a good thing too; don't tow so haven't done it yet. Maybe even fresh shocks, not sure yet.

Would love to put a guillotine choke on whomever broke into it and stole my Garmin, XM, and ScanGauge in Nov08.

Love, love, love it. Won't replace it until I can by a Land Cruiser with a diesel without moving overseas.

O2 sensors
rotors (4 sets of pads)
2 batteries
transfer case front output seal
blower motor makes some noise in the summer under extreme heat, but it goes away after a minute
A/C recharge
driver's door lock actuator started sticking last week if it's really hot out
broken glass on headlight (replaced with '06+ lights)
finally replacing OEM shocks this week

That's all I can think of, this truck has been extremely reliable. Hopefully it will last another 200k or so because we love it.

1998- 234K

pre 200K:
starter
normal maintenence

post 200K:
both CV axles
all 4 ball joints
starter (again)
tailgate wires
low beams (replaced with HIDs)
front ds caliper

Overall been a very reliable truck. Pleasure to drive. Needs new shock very badly, I am amazed the originals made it this far.

and feeding them:doh:

Year 2000 with 173,000 miles

Routine maintenance, new battery, brakes, windshield, normal repairs. One antenae because I forgot to put it down going through the car wash...doh! Windshields, every other year or so, due to the rocks the put on the roads in CO. Great rig, and nothing major! Knock on wood because I want this thing to be around for years to come.

2004 LX470 with 93xxx miles

No major issues; we put about 40k miles in 2 years from driving LA to PHX 1 a month plus regular local driving.

On third set of tires (285 Nitto TerraG) - no issues other than regular stuff like synthetic oil, brake pads, wiper blades, etc...

Still runs like new

I have an '00 with about 150,000. Most reliable car ever. I had an alternator go out. Been through a couple of batteries. Did all the smart things to do at the 90K maintenance. Needs new shocks now and still runs strong. My wife and kids have been beating the crap out of the car for several years. Just drove it today and it doesn't seem to be running as quiet as it once has. Maybe needs new starter contacts.

wow i remember this thread from ages ago. Extremely informative!
I posted reply 71 in 2007 and complained about my suspension. Here i am 3 1/2 years later and it's even worse!

updates. Currently i'm near enough to 148k kms.
L/H headlight bulb went at 142,000 kms. ARB fog lamp (l/h) has gone twice. I havent bothered replacing it second time. I rarely use them.

spiggot bearing in my manual gearbox went around 85k kms. Toyota f'ed up the service and i had an exhaust leak.
My dealer said no, no exhaust leak. Another dealer confirmed it and said that there was no gasket. (you have to remove the exhaust to remove the manual transmission) so the first dealer forgot to re-fit it.

They also f'ed up my UHF radio by removing an extension for the microphone, then denied it. I had to buy a part myself.

But, the new dealership said they did the rest of the service, but when i got home the oil filter still had mud on it from my weekend in the mud, and the oil was old and i've posted on here before somewhere about that.

Thankfully i no longer have to use Toyota to service the beast as it's mine outright since 100,000 kms as i was leasing it before that.

I had to replace my auxillary/secondary battery with a yellowtop Optima as the Exide died. But i also had to replace the Optima with another Optima because i kept my Waeco fridge in the back on 24x7 for two years and didnt drive it enough to charge it. So thats more "user error" than bad product. The second Optima - i have an 80W Solar Panel now and it tops it up if i go away camping for a while and dont drive for a few days.

98 w/ 149,000.

Clogged sunroof drains
2 sets of brakes
Couple fenders replaced from mall cruising
Fan clutch
A few batteries
2 sets of tires

Regular maintenance aside it's bullet proof IMO

2000 Toyota LC W/ 146K.

Exhuast Manifolds (1st time warrantee), now back with the tick (cold water crossing to blame)
Second Battery (OEM Failed)
Starter (short 1.3 mile commute for the first 83K of life)
CV Boot (Driver drove through something that probably cut the boot)
5th set of tires (Driver drives like michael schumacher)

11 Years and that is NOT BAD!!!!!!!!! Our 2006 E-Class Mercedes has been in the shop more times than the LC. Our 06 E55 AMG has been in the shop about the same amount. Not even going to start about the sports car

1999 model, 257,000 miles and running strong!
after searching the forum today, my problems have been typical of the ones posted here....

2-3 batteries
valve cover gaskets replaced
front brake rotors turned several times
steering wheel leather and front seats severely worn
heater hose T-fittings failed

have been staying on top of regular maintenance items which has helped tremendously, would buy another LC in a heartbeat

2000 that just clicked over 90k miles (bought with 50k literally from a "little old lady")

Before the 90k service:
- antenna, battery, front brakes (when I bought it)

At the 90k:
- the usual (inc timing belt & pump), plus starter (friggin' brushes) and rear brakes

Needs:
- My first set of replacement tires

Largely used around town with a decent amount of summer forest service roads (camping/geocaching) and towing (2 boats). Sold a POS Range Rover and never looked back.

Now if I could just filter the 900 threads about tires into a coherent decision tree for my usage... :)

2005 LX470, just turned over 90k. Bought at 70k <1 year ago.
Maintenance:
- new tires at 75k
- switched to synthetic M1 5W-30 at 80k
- repacked CV Joints at 80k due to leaking on both sides
- 'flushed' fluids at 85k (ahc, brake, power steering, transmission pan drop and full flush, front/rear diffs and tc with synthetics)
- repacked wheel bearings at 90k
- will be doing full 90k Timing Belt job very soon

Issues I've had:
- wet cargo area due to leaking third brake light gasket and satellite radio install (wire under weatherstripping)
- Needed new Navigation ECU at ~80k.
- recently developed the 'drone' at idle (~600 rpm)
- recently started squeaking on startup and when cold in the front by either the tensioner pulley or alternator (pulley)? Sounds like bearings, but maybe a belt issue? Will figure out with 90k service.
- leak on the passenger side floor coming from the black box behind/under glovebox. (had it 1 year ago with AC on only, now found it over night after rain although I also had defogger on previous evening so it could be unrelated to rain - problem not solved yet).

Oops - my bad, I thought this was the fewest miles with most issues thread ;)

How much has that maintenance cose you roughly? I'm looking at one with 76k and wondering what I'm in for.

Aside from the tires, I did the work myself so no labor costs (other than wife thinking I spend too much time on the truck).

- Tires were ~1200
- Oil change with synthetic is ~60 for me (2x5qts jugs + M1 209 filter) and for the moment I'm planning to go with 10k mile Oil change intervals.
- CV Joint repacks was ~70 for parts (boot kits + non oem clamps).
- Fluid flushes don't remember all details
-- I think the AHC was 2 containers for ~60
-- brake and power steering was nominal
-- transmission pan drop and flush - it's just the cost of the gasket and drain/fill/overflow washers and the fluid (believe I used 16 qts) so I think the tranny cost me ~120 all said and done.
- The diffs and tc fluid - it was ~8 qts x cost of fluid you choose. I used redline 75w-90 and I think it turned out to ~100 + new drain/fill washers.
- wheel bearings cost me 2 1lb tubs of M1 grease ($16)
+ 2 lock washers + 2 flange gaskets + 2 oil seals (~50 for these parts)
- Just got TB Parts and it cost me ~630 in parts + expensive S&H + 2G of coolant ($50). My parts list is extensive though - Timing Belt, TB tensioner and idler pulleys, WP assembly, Thermostat, Serpentine Belt, Serp Belt tensioner and idler pulleys, U/L radiator hose, cam and crank seals, spark plugs.

So - now rough 'total' for what it has taken me to 'baseline' my vehicle (not there yet but close):
~1200 in parts/fluids + 1200 tires.

This doesn't include the tools purchased or cost of 'learning' (i.e. having to do something more than once :) ).

In terms of tools:
Timing belt has specialty tools needed.
Wheel bearing will require special socket (54mm or 2 1/8") and some use a fish scale/tensioner gauge.
Torque wrenches (1/4" for tranny pan, 3/8" and 1/2" for most other jobs) are important for most jobs.
Snap ring pliers come in handy for axle jobs.

This is all just off the top of my head but hopefully helps.

Personally, I've been enjoying learning so much and it just happens to be on this truck. I haven't done the TB yet but hopefully I'll get comfortable with that then I should be able to do my own maintenance for the next few hundred thou!

If one paid for the labor on the 1200 in parts above at the dealership I believe it would easily be 2-3 times that. (TB with all the parts listed, cv repack, wheel bearing, brake/ps flushes, tranny pan drop and flush, front/rear diff and tc drain and refills).

The things that have failed:
- Radiator
- AC condenser
- AC front evaporator
- Starter [definitely contacts, but replaced with a rebuilt unit]
- Rear muffler [attacked by dreaded winter road salt]
- Four coil packs [I keep one on the shelf now - its only a matter of time before the others drop dead]
- One ABS wheel speed sensor [thanks agaisin for the 99 FSM tip on reading and clearing ABS codes]

All this was DIY, with the exception of the AC recharge after the condenser and evaporator failures.

Recently replaced the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, TB idlers, new bearings in drive belt idlers, drive belt.
I suspect the front DS CV joint is on the way out, so will replace both sides soon.
DS window motor is dodgy. Will try cleaning and lubing the runs first, but a new motor is a definite possibility.
HID projector upgrade on the way from FullyLitLED, and will get his CREE reversing lights when they are in stock.

Regular consumables including brake pads & rotors, filters, etc.
I've had this truck since new, and its still going strong.
