2000 hdj 100 190,000 kms
did regular p.m. using mobil 1 fully synthetic diesel engine oil
timing belt (twice)
all fluids
re placed repair kit for steering pumps rack n pinion repair kit

My hdj100 of '98 vintage and is just coming up to the same distance, in miles that is 118,000. I wonder what units of measure some of the posters use? It is not always obvious because the UK and USA tend to use miles while others, including Canada and Australia, use kilometres.

For the record mine has had one noisy rear wheel bearing replaced, all fluids twice and the timing belt once. It has also had a couple of rear brake lights and a front fog bulb replaced along with front discs [rotors]. The engine oil is changed for clean synthetic diesel oil religiously every 10,000 miles.
Before anyone jumps on me, yes I do know that Toyota recommends changing the engine oil every 4500 miles on this model but its my choice and I know what I'm doing ;p

99' 115k miles

lost a coil pack at 98K miles

other than that the stereo packed up at 105K miles (would not play CD's any more) so it was replaced - crazy but my 80's stereo did the same thing at about the same mileage - must me me. Head unit only replaced still have the stock sucky speakers

1 set of pads and rotors (i replace that at the same time usually)
1 antenna (my fault) fyi.. toyota quotes 4hrs labor this and it took me 3 1/2 hours
2 sets of tires ( i replace them early, due to wear and punctures)

That is the grant total - all scheduled maintenance done within 5K of required, Oil and filter at mostly 5K (right now i am way, way over due)
Mobil 1 10/50

Crappy front bar and Reese Hitch are rusting but at is it.

a million door dings later and i'm good for a while until the new one is out at least (i have had a 62, 80, and 100 with a FJC and FJ40 thrown in for good measure as well)

I must say the 80 was more reliable though - no coil pack issues in other words :)

Continuos LC owner since 1986

How does you LC experience compare with your G500 experience?

'99 LC bought from orig. owner at 65k miles, now 105k

-Starter contacts @ 85k - $100
-Front O2 sensors, one @ 96k, & one @ 98k - $206
-Power antenna mast @ 105k - $47
-Front & rear brake pads - $92 -Did not turn rotors

-Timing belt, WP, plugs, etc., next - $300

All work DIY.

Trailer wiring harness recall, but not done yet.

No cat shields rattle, TPS issues, ex. manifold, etc. -knock on wood.

Done the Bilstein HDs @ $265 and.................
Lost the infamous "D" Light yesterday.

2000 LC 157k, bought at 62k plan to drive to 250k+ just like my FJ60.

Minor
Non functioning antenna motor, no lumbar, no D-light, replaced broken 6-CD with plain Kenwood CD-Stereo, manifold rattle before warm, 1 key broke in half, left side mirror occasionally "twitches", lost a fog light (came loose and then ripped off by a vicious mud puddle)

Major
New Transmission at 157k (tomorrow)
Leaking CV boots

Maintenance
replaced windshield 3X, rear window 1X, brakes pads 2X, Tires 2X, rear brake bulbs X2, wiper blades, battery X2

regular oil and filter changes, differential fluid

After reading the forum, I guess I'll do the timing belt soon, maybe some other things...

HDJ100 '99 with almost 200000 miles

Just Regular Maintenance, Oil (Mobil1 5W50) and Filter every 5k miles, other fluids and belts. Nothing broken jet :)

I can attest for the least amount of miles with the most problems.

Replaced front diff and t-case. In the process of replacing the rear diff next week.

I'm in the process of getting the tranny replaced at only 64,000 miles. The dealership said that they had never seen that in a low milage LC. I'm pretty pissed at this point, I'd be more pissed if I didn't have an extended warranty..Get this, it expires on the 21st of this month !! Other than that only the antenna, 02 sensor, 1 brake job, shocks replaced with Bilsteins and tires replaced with BFG AT's have been done. All required maintenance has been done to the tee.. I'm eager to see the new 2008 LC/LX

I am thinking about buying a 2001 locally;
very surprising about your transmission; never heard of a LC tranny
going out with less than 180-200K. Wondering if it had poor service,
or more accurately bad service tech ie: wrong fluid put in it during
a routine service?? Or, even if a tech sabotaged it by adjusting
the kick down cable improperly or on purpose??

What symptoms did you have with it?

I once put an ATF additive in my FZJ80 tranny just for grins, and it started almost immediately to slip and shudder in reverse, only.

I immediately flushed and replaced all the ATF fluid with 16 quarts of
Mobil 1 dexron; problem solved; have put 35K on it since that
and still it is perfect.

Hey all, I've have about 192k on my '99 and until 3 days ago I have had 2 problems other than the gas mileage and brake pads. I had a bad injector at about 180k and now I've been told that I need (get ready for this):
front wheel bearings/hubs
oil seals for steering knuckle
steering knuckle (maybe)
driver's side axel
front hub assembly
dust shields
flange for wheel hub
hub seals inner/outer
front brake rotors (both)
front caliper (not sure if both are needed)

I was told yesterday that all this stems from wheel bearings going bad. They are telling me that this can all be done for 2k ish. Guys/Galls, please tell me if there is a less expensive way to have this fixed correctly. Feel free to shoot me a pm or whatever. Thanks in advance. HELP!!!

How on earth could a wheel bearing damage the caliper ?

Maybe wheel bearing service every 30k is a good idea ?

2001 LC with 215,000 and mostly no problems. Replacing the driver window motor($500) next week, done the 90k service at 115K(I had only bought it with 75k). Brakes and tires(Revo's go forever though on the highway). I'm about to do the timing belt and water pump again since it's been 100k. I've had leaking axle seals for awhile but probably won't fix them until I do suspension work. Antennae won't go up or down and the 'D' light was broken for the past 3 years and just started working again last week. The miles are going to come on slower now because very soon we won't be commuting with the LC.

Just turned 235,000 and I've got no issues apart from a dead O2 sensor. I've got you all beat in the miracle-ness of this feat though, considering the previous owner (my dad) didn't understand the term "maintenance"... He's been running the same fluids (apart from engine oil) for more than a hundred thousand miles! Needless to say, I had a field day with the fluids when i got it.

99 with 177k. Only thing I have had to "fix" was the alternator and a coil pack. Done all of the recomended service.

99 Lx470 - 240K km or 149, 000 miles; i bought it with 135K km.

Water pump and timing belt at 180K.
abs sensor
a couple of o2 sensors; a third has gone and i've been driving it anyways for about 6 months
complete front brake job; pad, rotors and calipers (seized - i think the dealer screwed me on this) last year
new muffler - last year
catalytic converter shield rattles
rear a/c lines were rusted through; i found out it happened before i bought it as well so i had the rear a/c eliminated by crimping the lines.
replaced the tires with Mich LTX's
upper tail gate is rusting through
"d" dash gear selector is out
driver door hinge is a little worn

Lexus charges about $350 for each sensor = $1400
muffler and brake job = $4000
a/c repair = $900
really happy except for the muffler/brake job fiasco.

Hey all, first post for me.

99 LC with about 165K miles. Bought it with about 9700 miles back in 2000. I use this vehicle in every way imagineable, from daily commuter to tow vehicle, a little off roading, driving to South Utah for skiing and playing in snow. It has been a tank.

So far:
- 90K service at about 84K miles inlcluded, timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, plugs, radiator flush and all fluids, IIRC.
- replaced antenna mast @ 105K
- starter contacts @ 125K
- for what ever reason, passenger side brake light several times
- lower tail gate cable at @ 140K
- battery once
- brake pads a few times
- had upgraded to OME shocks way back when and think I am going to get some Bilsteins soon
- has a Borla exhaust system so I can hear that Japanese V8
- has towed upwards of 7000 lbs, with out a problem,
- yes, thankfully, the 'D' light is also out

forgot; what prompted me to come on this site....just lost the front driver side headlamp bulb, replaced both with a higher intesity bulb

2000 with 88k
7 height sensors
4 accumulators
3 tilt steering motors
1 transfer case
headlight wire harness
every component on the rear breaks
Front bearings and all components.
CV boot.
Was told today at the dealer that 2 of the bleeders on the calipers are frozen which may require new calipers. $650 each
Currently has a squeak in the front end that the dealer cannot find.
All routine maint done on time.

- starter
- fan clutch
- thermostat
- rear diff
- rear AC lines leaked, so bypassed them
- a few interior rattles have started
- just put on 3rd set of tires
- THUNK!

For the most part, a tank.
