Who has the Most Miles on Original AHC

You guys that are loaded up with weight and AHC still working properly… isn’t there a weight limit for the AHC before not wanting to go in High mode?

My ‘06 LX seems to have trouble going into H with our overlanding gear with no heavy bumpers, racks, etc. seems to be maybe 100 lbs extra.

AHC is designed to support about half the weight of the [stock] vehicle. That does not change. Any additional weight must be taken up by the torsion bars/coils. As weight goes up and springs age the AHC pressures go up to maintain ride height. If your pressures are correct then you should have no problem going into H, if your pressures are good and you still can't get into H then you likely have another issue.

Every time an AHC gets dumped into a trash can, a puppy is born.
 
Mine hit 435k before I changed the original globes. I was only getting about four lines between low and high. I get over 10 now with the new globes. It actually still rode fine in comfort mode but would bounce you out of the seat in sport mode. I replaced the rear spings with some used low mileage ones. Got 443k on her now. I re-torsioned the front bars to bring the front into spec. She rides great now.

My 2006 made it to 231K miles before the shock developed a leak, but I think the sway bar link popping off might’ve caused that.

Check your neutral pressure, keep it in spec, flush the system and watch for signs of rotting lines. If you see it starts to rot, rub grease on it or spray it with fluid film to keep it from rusting out.

If you're around 9 some King springs should be just the ticket. Quick and easy swap in the rear. If you've been ok with the handling up front then just crank the existing TBs up a bit. The stock LC100 torsion bars would be a significant overshoot, IMO. Too much spring rate and not enough force in the hydraulics for them to do their magic soaking up bumps. Cool pic!



I just hit 243k. Obviously not the highest here, but I think pretty impressive for an all original system minus a set of globes around 160k. Front bumper with bullbar, winch, full skids, group 31 battery, sliders, rear bumper with ridiculous accessory panel and tire swingout, ADGU SS1 Kitchen setup. Rides wonderfully even with plenty of old rubber still in the joints. If I had more time I'd proactively replace the height sensors, but I'll live on the edge for now and hope for the best. :)

I’ll be adding a rear steel bumper and possibly a fridge and drawer system soon so I need to account for those as well as any accessories I add to the back.
 
I am at 243k miles and on Original AHC. I am about to flush the fluid this weekend. Hopefully that helps smooth out the ride.

Wondering if maybe I should just get a fresh set of lx470 stock TBs or if there’s something in between that and the LC TBs. Or would an older set of stock LC torsion bars be the best option? Will def look into king springs for the back.

I’ll be adding a rear steel bumper and possibly a fridge and drawer system soon so I need to account for those as well as any accessories I add to the back.
You can reindex the existing bars or try non-AHC. The math never makes sense to me on the non-AHC bars - it's just way too much spring rate on paper. The non-AHC bars are somewhere around 40-50% stronger and you've likely only raised your front axle load 5-10%. Some people have reported acceptable handling, but I'm a skeptic. 🤷

There's nothing in between I'm aware of. You're either a little low on rate with your AHC bars or way over with non-AHC.
 
Man that looks like new, these trucks age so well when you take care of them.
Make no mistake about it...she has been worked hard and was put up wet for several years as my mobile field office. But man does she run and AHC still works as expected creeping up on 400k miles. Couldn't ask for any more reliability than that IMO.

I mentioned in my first post that everything was OE but forgot to credit the King springs/spacers that I installed when I performed the sensor lift....so almost OEM AHC system with damn near 391k.
 
I have way less miles than most folks on here - 180k. My AHC system is all original EXCEPT all four shocks - the front two were replaced because I had a persistent leak from one of the front shocks (turns out the shock shaft had worn through), and I replaced the rears when one appeared to be weeping a little passed the shaft seal.

I've welded extensions onto the control arms up front and to the bottom of the shock eye on the rear. OEM t-bars up front, King Springs + poly spacers in the rear. Generally the LX weighs in around 6300 lbs. I use techstream to get the pressures around the 6mpa mark. I love the cushy ride on and off road, and the auto-leveling feature in the rear when I hook up a trailer.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm very happy with the ride with the OEM non-AHC bars on my LX. Some of you may remember my carolina squatter problem, and the changed spring rate fixed that instantly. It has far less pitchiness now than it did before, and no one will call the ride harsh - and my LX weighs much less than @Mikes04LX470 's. I get that the math doesn't really add up, but believe me, it works out fine. You DO end up with way less turns on the adjusters as you'd expect.

Flexes very good (imo). The up travel is slightly limited, I assume because of the higher overall spring rate on the front end, but I'll take that for the better on-road manners. Also, with the extensions on the front, I probably need extended bump stops, which I do not have, so the spring rate helping limit the up travel may well be a good thing:
