Can someone tell me which of these relays is the windshield wiper relay. My local dealer says it is NLA. Was to.d the part Number is: 8594090A04. Was also told that this particular relay was only used on 85-87s. Can someone verify this info. Thanks.

You were told correctly. That relay was only used on 4/85 - 8/87. Wiper relays for all years of 60/62 are NLA, so no hope of substituting or adapting a new Toyota relay from another year.

"...NO HOPE of substituting or adapting another."??? What's special about it? Does anyone have its internal wiring diagram? I can see in his original pic the big green one says "FLASHER", which seems to be where OSS's diagram shows the wiper relay. But the link shows something shaped differently from anything in the pic or diagram.

No hope of substituting a brand new Toyota relay specifically sold for 60's. I'm sure some generic relay can be adapted.

^^^^ Sorry, this is an incomplete answer. What makes it special is the way it's socketed. After doing some digging, I'm not convinced that any of the FJ6x wiper relays are plug-in interchangeable. The link above is to the FJ62 front wiper relay. Cruiserparts has it mislabeled as being compatible with all years of FJ6x. The challenge to adapting a generic relay (or one from another year) is going to be getting at the wiring.

The original pic in the first post, the firewall is on the right side. I checked with my local O'Reilly and they said not available. Found a 62 locally that I might be able to get one out of but not sure if the 60 and 62 use the same part Number. Who would have thought something as simple as a relay would be such a specific part not found with my other Toyota applications across other vehicles..

So no one has the internal wiring? Has anyone ever opened one up to see exactly how it failed? Has anyone ever tried to repair one? If it can't be repaired, can it be used as an adapter pigtail to make a jumper from a common relay (or an available Toy wiper relay) to the original socket in the dash?

I took the wiper relay apart on my '84 FJ60 when the intermittent function went out. That was a long, long time ago, so details are sketchy. IIRC I was able to replace one of the tiny resistors and got it working again. I believe I learned enough to do the fix based on info from the Pirate4X4 website (pre-IH8MUD). Not sure if I can dig this up or not. BTW, the relay to the best of my knowledge is still functioning. That reminds me to check it out again when I'm back to Nevada where the vehicle is.

@jfnall - back to your original question about which relay is the wiper control, the answer is "none of the above."

The location changed from on the relay block on the driver firewall to a bracket just above the accelerator pedal
in 4/85 (11/84 for BJ60's). With the location change, the part number changed from 85940-90A01 to 85940-90A04.

The part number changed again for the FJ62 to 85940-90A09, but the location doesn't appear to have changed. This is the part shown above at Cruiserparts.net.

The pins/plugs don't look like they're compatible between 90A04 and 90A09, but the good news is that the plug and wiring for 90A04 is accessible. It should be possible to adapt another relay if that's the only option.

@Steve83, the wiring diagram is in the very back of the 84-90 Body Chassis FSM.

So you can post it? I'm talking about the relay's INTERNAL wiring - so I can see what it does. I have some blurry scans of the Haynes manual for an '88, but they don't show what's inside the wiper control modules. (And the logic tables for the switches have errors.)

Personally, I wouldn't trust the Haynes manual for anything and Chilton even less. It'd be easier if you downloaded the FSM; the diagram is kinda big.

For Sale - 40, 50, 60, and 80 series FSM for a hell of a price.

Here's the relevant section though.

As for the internal operation of the relay, I'm not aware of any Toyota documentation that shows it.

@Steve83 Did you ever take the relay apart to figure out how it works inside? Did you fix it?

Sorry for the same post so many times. It kept saying I was getting an error and couldn't post. I refreshed my screen and there was no error, they all posted...
