Which power steering stop leak to use?

Mine looked like that and it was the return line. Very straight forward, quick. If that doesn't work then do the pump. Start simple : )

This is great info, I have a power steering leak, small now but will get under it this weekend to find source. For now I used this snake oil solution. While at the local autozone I looked at Amazon reviews and this seemed the best of what I could find. Will do the hardware repair when I have time, hope this thing will buy a few weeks

There's always one! A leaking seal is a leaking seal, the man asked for a sealant solution, I gave him one!

I can see you now at the side of the road with a puncture, your spare is also flat and you have a can of tyre sealer/inflator, ooooh it's pissing down with rain and I am twenty miles from home I cannot use this repair kit on my Land Cruiser as it is the 'wrong approach'....no wait....it's ok I went to work in the Kia THANK GOD....ppssssssttt!!

Give me a break pleeeeease!

Dave

There is a time for makeshift repairs (Parachute Cord, Zip Ties, Duct Tape, Fiber Fix all in my cruiser). This isn't one of them and neither is brakes. Carry on, and thanks for reminding us to check our spare tire pressure. Prevention is best tool.

After you have added "Miracle in a Bottle" to swell the O-Rings, and it leaks elsewhere (fill hose), do you rebuild and clean the whole system of seal sweller or just ride it out and hope it doesn't let go 500 miles from home?

@Izzyandsue......not a problem, I was going to say some people have to get up early to catch me however, there are oh so many more that would need to stay up all night! ;)

Hmmm 4 months to formulate a reply eh.........ok?

Look, as I said the man asked for a sealant idea and I gave him one, Christ they even sell the sealant in a bottle!

If someone leans under your car and cuts the fluid lines to your power steering unlike your brakes you do not lose your steering!

I also note the comment 'it's a LC not a Kia'....and your point is? If the power steering fails on a Kia that's ok but not on a Land Cruiser?

I will re check this thread for another of your 'I never break the speed limit and my sh*t don't stink' replies in oh....... about April?

Dave, I think North Korea has hacked the forum, we got to leave them alone...:bang:

Roadside fixes are a must, or in my case when running the 24 hours of Lemons, duct tape is our best friend.. We did run a Kia once, and the team pour in a 5 gallon container of mislabeled water into the gas tank. Would you believe that after removing the tank and dumping it, and refilling it with gas that Kia was back on the track that morning? Respect the Kia...

What, the North Korean's sit and write such drivel, nope I am not having that!! There is no way they are THAT petty? :D

Hear you with the Kia, plenty in Spain but, one of the problems that we are seeing just recently is blocked fuel filters in the tanks on the diesel versions. It seems the coating on the inside of the tank is like a heavy rubber, presumably to quieten sloshing fuel as the tank sits under the passenger seats? It is dissolved after a few years by.........yeh you guessed it diesel! Permanent quick fix is a new tank with the 'new improved coating' or simply pull the tank filter out every 3/4 weeks and clean the filter, takes about 4/5 attempts to get it clean...ish. Other than that fantastic reliability hard to knock.

Better get back on topic :steer:...er is that an appropriate smiley? The last thing I want is someone pointing out there is too much play in the steering

Your not driving a LC without power steering, already tried that :D
I'm not angry at your recommendation of a sealer.
Sealer is just not the way to fix this problem.
Honesty can be a hard pill to swallow.
Moving on....Post away

Should have poured some brake fluid in the gas tank, that would have it fixed the coating!

I have no experience with Korean diesels, but I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened in a German diesel and the engine used the dissolved coating as fuel! My VW diesel ran on lamp oil, I tell you...

No brake fluid in the tank, I only do things based on my experience and that of others, nothing dangerous around here. :meh: It is true if you can get around VW doing the odd 'silly' thing like using plastic cogs with steel cables for window lifts then VW have a good reputation. Had my first car when I was 10 years old, it was a Ford Zephyr and was brilliant......once I had repaired it with the help of a school chum and the ability at a young age to read and understand workshop manuals....god am I really that old? :(

The reseal kit is less than $20 from rockauto, you can get hose buy the foot from any parts store, atf is cheap at walmart. You can probably pull it, re seal, and replace all low pressure lines for less than $60

Also, to answer your original question, if it has ATF then use the Lucas atf stop leak. I used this on my wifes truck for about a year. It will slow the leak but not stop it.
I know it's an old thread but does the rockauto Kit come with directions?

Old thread, had to go into my "ignore" list to see which assclown wrote all that ignorant crap.

Does the atf from power steering and tranny both make contact? I ask because I have a bad power steering pump/ box leak and I've noticed a slight leak from transmission. Have been unable to locate tranny leak. Thank you for responses

These are not connected systems, the lines do run in close proximity on the front left side of the engine bay under the battery.
