My problem is with a 4runner. I had a power steering pump that always whined. Replaced it three times still whined. Tried power steering fluid instead of ATF. Then leaked out of ABS system but did not whine. replaced seals in ABS still leaked. Went back to ATF. leaks stopped but whined. Added lucus and whine stopped but now the steering box is leaking. $400 for replacement part. I just need the leak to stop. What fluid will stop the leak and not whine?
I had a dime sized drop from the PS pump (this is after fixing the major leaks from the oil pump cover and the main crank seal).
Based on some old advice on this thread I put in around 2 tablespoons of brake fluid in the reservoir and it's working OK for now.
Will replace o-rings when the brake fluid trick no longer works. Happy for now.

Leak doesn't have to be the pump. Could be the gearbox.
