Guys,

Been looking for some clutch kits while my motor and transmission are pulled.

Found a kit on ebay for $185. Napa wants $385 for theirs. Thoughts? Where should I get the kit from? Toyota?

Thanks,
Jonny

OEM lasts a very long time.

3 speed or 4 speed clutch... Mark at marks off road has a higher clamping force PP for both apps

It is for a 3-spd. The FJ won't ever be taken off road so I don't really need anything special. Just to get me around town...

Get your best price, then call me. I have a new Heavy Duty (heavier duty springs, up around 2,000lbs) clutch and pressure plate set that I will depart with at a real gee whiz price. We are discontinuing them, and this one has been on the shelf for months. I'll match any reasonable good-guy price!!!!

clutch

I bought a clutch/pressure plate from NAPPA (Korean) and it was stiffer than a Centerforce. Couldn't get that bitch out fast enough. Toy OEM would be my choice.

My truck had a slipping centerforce in it when i bought it. I actually sourced a Sachs clutch for it about 6 years ago when it was all torn apart. I've been very pleased with it. Pedal effort is the same or maybe a little less than the centerforce, and i've never felt it slip. I had a brand new napa clutch in a 22re 4 runner with 5.29 gears and 35's years ago that slipped whenever I thought about abusing it. I have one in my 89 too and it occasionally slips when plowing snow.

OEM

I got everything from cruiserdan to convert from 3 spd to 4 spd.
Are you thinking of a 4 speed at all, a lot of folks prefer them to the 3 speed and while you are at it it might be a good time to go ahead and make the switch.

This link has pics from my swap and p/ns for all the stuff you need to switch from 3 to 4 speed and also shows the diff between the two since I took out a 4 speed

all the 3 speed stuff can be used with the 4 speed but you must use all of it as a set ---flywheel, bellhousing, clutch arm, clutch etc.

also a good time to do the rear main seal

about $400 all told for all new OEM parts including pilot bearing, throwout arm and hub and new bearing, clutch, rear main seal etc

Good luck with it

Thank you everyone for your responses.

Trying not to spend anymore money on this pit of mine, I decided to just stick with the 3-spd instead of making the swap.

I called up CruiserDan and he took care of me. Great guy to deal with.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

OEM baby ;p
