I've broken alot of firestiks, so I started picking up fiberglass whips at the local Kenworth dealer. At 8 bucks a pop, I can afford to have a spare or two laying around (I think they are more flexible also).
My home fabbed mount out of scrap.

I did the same thing. I found these brackets for something else in a lab I was decomissioning a few years back. After cleaning out the garage a few months ago, I decided to go with this thing since it was already zinc plated.

I like my Wilson. Should be easy to work out a mount on the tire carrier. That's what I did on my 40. Don't forget to run a separate ground wire to the frame.

used both,,prefer wilson,,,firesticks make good swizzlesticks,,,
102" steel whip on a springy tethered when not in use is the ratzazz,,,
looks kinda kool as well...

Remember, when you add a spring, and I'd suggest perhaps a quick disconnect as well so your antenna doesn't get stolen, that you'll need to retune the antenna with an SWR meter.
