I've searched around a bit, and I can't find the deal with portable air compressors. I just want one in my 80 I can use when I re-inflate my tires after I deflate them. What should I look for. I remember seeing some on Amazon, but not sure if they're worth it.

I found a Superflow MV-50 on a clearance table at Checker Auto Parts about a year ago ($20.00). A friend was pissed as he bought one at the same store a week earlier for twice as much. It has done a great job inflating tires (about 3-5 minutes per tire (3 for 33" and 5 for 37"). I usually end up using it to inflate two other sets of tires at the end of the day. After half an hour of inflating tires it is very hot to the touch. I have used it on half a dozen trips with no problems. The CFM is probably not as high as a QuickAir unit, but neither is the price. Here is a site with some pictures:

This unit has a higher output volume than most of the little 12V high pitched units, and it's metal construction seems to deal with the heat better (no weird smells). The valve stem adapter screws on securely and there is a quick-disconnect at the pump (also gets hot). Everything comes in a zippered back that never leaves my truck.

Happy Hunting,

Mike
