I purchased my FJ62 to fix up and drive for a few months till I had a job again and could throw down money on a new car...

untill that happens these gas prices are going to kill me if I ever go on a long trip, fortunadely I drive about 5miles a day down 1 street to work and back to my house, and to my other office a block away...

so far I like the FJ, but would still ultimately be happier in a newer vehicle..

the tuff duck seat covers and adding XM were definately perks.

I have gone through and done all but 2 repairs making the vehicle a TLC Stage 1, don't know what they should sell for with all the work completed, not sure if I should ask TLC about brokering the vehicle and making a cut, so I can use their rep and get back what I put into the vehicle.

Since I got the rig, I have really cleaned it up and done every little repair, except rebuilding the front axel, which I'd do eventually and I need the oil pan replaced ( I guess, TLC said it's leaking a little).

I'm not sure how far in advance I should be placing an ad before I Want to sell it, and where it'd be worthwhile placing one, the ebay trucks I've seen don't get very much money, so I want to target more TLC enthusiast who know it's value versus the average joe..

My local autotrader has like 2-3 an issue and are pretty nasty looking rigs, even for Los Angeles where they are rust free, they just aren't taken care of, or have accident damages and look nasty.

I saw some website cruiserz.net or something that was all classifieds, I can't find it again though, people seemed to get good money and sell them for decent value on there.

I'd imagine winter would be a good time to throw some ads up? When is the best/worst time to place a 4x4 up for sale?

I have all the paperwork stating the vehicle did the 3 day inspection, and all the reciepts for the repairs to the work that was done, bringin it 2 repairs shy of being Stg 1 (by TLC's standards)..

I'm assuming this paperwork is what will give the truck its actual value I'm going to want for it when I determine a price.

Any help/suggestions? (this would be happening in a few months, no rush, enjoying it for the time bieng)..

It's been very hard going from a '01 nice handling sporty Audi A4 into a big rig, but I have been enjoying it, in the endrun, it'll never be a vehicle for me, at least not my DD, but it's definately an awesome truck once all the repairs are done and you dont have to worry about it so much.

Thanks in Advance..

I think fall is a prime time to sell a truck like this. If it's not a 'showroom' truck people will be buying it as reliable winter transportation.. that was my idea- but I bought mine in the spring.

Local classafieds are your best bet. Stay away from e-bay unless you have something rare or really well taken care of.

Won't a couple of tanks of gas be a lot cheaper than a car payment?

If you have a nice looking truck and good history on ebay you can get decent money for it there. A friend of mine got decent money for his on autotrader.com, but it took 3 weeks to sell there. Is it cruizers.com your thinking of, I don't think they draw that many hits?
Good luck.

why sell

I agree with Doc. Gas is cheaper than a car payment. I say keep it. You have a great start on the cruiser. But if you must, I know www.rockymountaincruisers.com gets quite a few classifieds. It is where I found mine. Good luck to you!

yeah thats understood, there isn't anything really besides the new land rover LR3 that makes my mouth water.. and definately nothing that I see as being more dependable as what I already have since I just dumped all this money in restoring it back to its prime.

my only other option would be to get another used car or something around $16k, any of which would just be asking for more problems, and I'd have to start all over again fixing everything, at least I had this FJ62 fully inspected and had every little screw/nut and bolt replaced, except I'm missing one inner tailgate screw...

but I definately understand... I am bummed about the super increase in gas prices though, its just nice I am currently working 3mi from my apt.

honestly... if I did sell it would be to get into something with a nicer ride, leather perhaps... honestly everything else I want out of a car besides more pep, I could easily add to the cruiser..

even that new camry OEM toyota navigation would fit in there fit fine $1400 if I REALLY wanted navigation... I had a garmin street pilot III, which I miss having, I sold it to run navigation off of my pocketpc phone, but i sold both and now have nothing..

I didn't know that one could use the words "Land Rover" and "dependable" in the same sentence! Do a search on Land Rover reliability. There is a guy in California somewhere who spent more on repairs on his Rover in one year than the price of the truck!!! Lucas electrics, the prince of darkness!

You only live 3 miles from your work!? Keep it and rent a car for the long trips. Though it sounds like what you want is something plush and trouble free. The older cruiser may not be for you. You gotta love it and love tinkering with it or you will not be happy. Good luck to you!

And I agree with cruiser_guy, Landrover and dependable DO NOT belong in the same sentence.

You need this for the 3miles to work?

I have both a 60 and an 80 series TLC's, and it sounds like you might like th 80 better, not much better on gas though.

but you can definately pick up a used 93-97 cruiser with lockers and leather, sunroof, etc.. for around 10K or less if you look long enough.

Not only would it be more 'comfortable' to drive, but it would be an exceptional off-road truck if you decide to get heavily into it.

Yeah I considered that just liked the style of the 62 better, it looked more appealing at the time, although I knew 80's added a moonroof and so on, I just thought there were alot more money.

What might be involved in trading someone for a nice 80?

I don't think you'll find anyone willing to trade an 80 with lockers for a stocker 62, but you never know.

I bought my 93 (leather, lockers, sunroof, 3rd row seats, etc.....) in May for $8k. Might be best to find an 80 that you like first, then dump the 62 so that you aren't stuck walking to work in the winter....

There's a song from the 80s that goes..."Nobody walks in LA..."

just get a decent bike for your commute and use your LC on weekends. There is a lot of great 4 wheeling Southeast of you in Anza Borrego Desert State Park. You can drive down any dry wash and set up camp anywhere you want. I am in Northern CA and am jealous of how close you are to desert 4 wheeling.

BTW, I think I might have seen you a few weeks ago when I was down there for work. I was driving back to the Hyatt on Sunset and saw a nice looking 62 on Highland near Hollywood Blvd.
