Where to place (4x) jack stands?

I built a set of pyramid blocks years ago similar to below. Yes, they are safe and I've used them to hold up heavier vehicles for extended periods of time during restorations. The pieces are screwed together and you can build them as tall as you want; at times I've mounted a 4x4 above the top 2x4. Pretty much impossible to tip during use.

Metal jack stands don't give me great comfort especially now that most are made in China. Too many variables in metal casting... I know what I'm getting with Doug Fir (1700psi compression strength parallel with grain).

Isn't it a pain to build that Jenga tower times 4 every time u want to support your truck?

^that's safer than a lot of what I've seen on the internet over the years.

He said they're screwed together, build it once and keep them whole.

I'm sure a lot of us watch that recent video of the 100-series getting a SAS and the guy has an 80 he's pulling the axle off of....on a trailer...with a piece of teetering upright 4x4 lumber as his jack stand....and with his toddler running around and playing next to him shaking the whole rig o_O

Definitely would be a higher risk version of Jenga!

Anyway, I like the wood idea.....I mean.....wood can support things like, well, you know....houses, ships, 2 tons of stone (pallets), etc.

FWIW I can only use the front FSM recommended location when I use the 12 ton stands.
Getting up to the frame rails there requires a longer reach that a 6 ton couldn't do.

Paired with 6 ton stands under the rear axle.

Have you ever tried to see if 6-ton stands at the rear-most diagram position reach? When I do my AHC delete I won't be able to support at the rear axle.

Hmm I haven't.

First pic is 12T and 6T,

Look thru and see the frame and tow hook there for a height reference.

Second is the 6T at the rear.

It may work but I think you have to jack up the rear axle and remove the tires to give you the little bit of room you might need to set the rear frame on the 6T, the best bet would be four 12 ton jack stands.

I scored mine at Northern Tool, the Strongway brand has the locking pins and I got them to match the sale price I found on their website.

I keep meaning to go get a second set of 12Ts.

Hmm ok, thanks for that. Do the 12T have enough room at the base if you use the forward-most and rear-most positions? Seems like it, at least.
