more specifically in Texas if at all possible. There seem to be a ton of M101a2s. Is there any reason everyone prefers the M416/101cdn? Just lighter and tows better?

The 416 is a 1/4 ton trailer the 101 is a a 2 1/2 ton unit. Weight size and capacity are greater on the 101

M101 is 3/4 ton trailer. Meaning it is rated to haul 3/4 ton off road and 1 1/2 ton on pavement. It's the M105 that is the monster trailer. I have couple 1/4 trailer and a M101. The 1/4 ton trailers I don't even notice when I'm trailering them. The M101 is little over three times as heavy and I notice it. My M101 is a older A1 type with the huge 16" split rims and NDT tires. At highway speeds it bounces around on the hitch. The later M101A2 use a standard eight lug wheel which it much earlier to deal with and balance. I would rather have a A2 but since I paid less than $200 for this M101 it was hard to pass up. Plus it came with all the stakebed sides and bows.

I've got a guy in the North Texas area, outside of Decatur that has a couple left. Same place I got mine. I'd rather not plaster his name and number on here but let me know and I'll pm you his info.

As for the M101 CDN, it's a trailer in the smaller and handier 1/4 ton class (NOT a M101A, BTW.) Most people prefer these over the larger 3/4 ton and up trailers for wheeling, because most people don't need a huge capacity to go camping.

The M101 CDN is also of relatively recent vintage, 1992, as Canada built them long after US 1/4 ton trailer production ceased. You see some rust, but most are in much better shape than the M416s you run across.

The only disadvantage is that the bed is welded to the frame with the M101 CDN. This makes it stronger, but also a little more of a handful to restore since you can't break the bed and frame apart for cleaning and painting.
