I’ve got a little bit of water in dripping in and I want to make sure my sunroof drains are clear. Supposedly the PO had the dealership clear them a few months ago. I don’t see any debris in the perimeter basin, but when I pour water into the drain holes, it seeps out of the pinch seam under the rocker panels. Shouldn't there be a rubber tube poking out under the car where the water drains?

I ran about 4’ of wire into the drain holes before it stopped feeding in … somewhere.

thanks @Trunk Monkey. ChatGPT checks this time I guess:

On a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser (J100), the sunroof drainage system includes four drain tubes—one at each corner of the sunroof cassette. The front drains route through the A-pillars, and the rear drains route through the C-pillars. Here’s a breakdown of where the front tubes exit and where you should see water draining:

Front Sunroof Drains – Exit Location
• The front drain tubes run down the A-pillars and exit behind the front fender liners, near the lower rocker panel area, close to the front door hinges or kick panel area. To see the water draining:

• Open the front doors and look behind the front wheel wells, where the rocker panel meets the fender.
• Water should be visible dripping near the seam between the body and the rocker, or just behind the mud flaps (if equipped).
• You may need to remove the lower plastic splash guards or fender liners to fully access or clean the drain exits.

Rear Sunroof Drains – Exit Location
• The rear drains route through the C-pillars and exit.
• Just behind the rear wheel wells, either through the lower rear quarter panel or via ports behind the rear bumper.
• Look for small rubber grommets or plastic drain valves at the bottom edge of the quarter panel.

Troubleshooting Tip
If you pour a small amount of water into the front sunroof channels and it doesn’t exit near the front door rocker/fender seam, the drain tube may be clogged or disconnected—often due to debris or deterioration of the rubber elbow at the drain exit.

Sources & Supporting Documentation
1. Toyota Factory Repair Manual for 1999 Land Cruiser J100 – While it doesn’t explicitly show the full sunroof drain path, it documents the A-pillar routing for wiring and sunroof cassette, which supports the drain tube routing through the same pillar.

2. Toyota 100-Series Land Cruiser Forums – IH8MUD.com contains dozens of threads from owners detailing sunroof drain clogs and confirming exit points behind the fender liners. Relevant threads:
