I'm looking pretty aggressively to find a good LX570 for my ultimate overland build.
Recently completed a GX offroad/ overland build but quickly realized that it's a little too small for our family especially my teens in the back.
Trying to keep it for at least 5~10 yrs once the build is completed.

Where did you find your LX570?
What sites to look at regularly (been looking at Autotempst, autotrader, edmunds, etc)?
Any tips to share (always brought a new car and new to the used car buying game)?
Also, any good resources to look for private sales?
Should I stick with 2013-2015 or 2008-2011 for a somewhat cheaper price?

Sorry for the lengthy questions...
I have been reading the Mud for the last few weeks and still have so many questions.

We purchased our 2010 LX570 in January of 2020 and got it from a used car dealer with many high end sports cars out of Louisville KY. We did a roundtrip day trip to go get it from southeastern TN. We prefer the older body style and the lower price of the older model. One way we searched, we googled used LX570 and found the ones that were at dealers, used car lots etc. We looked at a few as we drove through NC. We looked at a few just online in TX but were afraid those may be flood victims from recent hurricanes so be careful of that. It probably took us about 3 months to find the one we wanted. Recently helped a friend find an GX460 but one struggle right now is that there is a hot market for used cars. The other issue our friend ran into, the ones he looked at, at dealers were a mess. They have problems finding workers so they are not cleaned up and detailed. Three places I would add to your search are, cargurus.com, KBB under their used cars and Facebook Marketplace. Good luck. Show us what you end up with and then what you do with it. We're going to turn ours into an overlanding vehicle so we're getting quotes right now from ACC Garage out of Atlanta due to all the electronics and their expertise to do a lift and sliders to start. We do our own work on the older land cruisers!

The usual auto sales websites, but also scour Craigslist using a search engine like SearchTempest: Search all of Craigslist nationwide & more - https://www.searchtempest.com/ It takes some getting used to, takes time to figure out how to search the areas you want, and use the features for only new postings, etc.

Private sellers will usually throw up a Craigslist ad as well as the major website ads. So do dealers, scammers, it takes some effort to sort through it all, but I've found some nice deals on cars, boats, watches, etc., by patiently waiting and watching.

craigslist, facebook marketplace, offer up, and I like cargurus for a central place to search dealer listings. Carmax and a few others don't list on cargurus, but most dealers are there.

My LX was found on craigslist private party, which I search daily just out of habit. Prefer to deal with a private owner rather than a dealer any day of the week, even if both are shady :o

There was a very nice looking lx 570 (Texas) in the classified section. Seemed like a good price mid 30s for less than 100k. White one with 35s I believe.

A lot of dealers don't/won't advertise on anything but their own personal website. Found my 2018 with 23K miles last year at Lexus of Las Vegas.

I looked literally everywhere for about 6 months, then found one 700 miles away from me on Mud and made an offer the day the ad popped up. Had missed out on several GX’s by being too slow to make an offer before I decided I really wanted an LX.

Seller was kind enough to hold it for me a few days on just my word until I could get there with a bank check. It was pristine inside and out, and after I bought it he told me there were 7 people lined up behind me if the deal fell through.

These high demand vehicles are one of the rare occasions where it actually helps to be a cash buyer, if I had to wait for financing to line up I don’t think I would have gotten it in time.

Same here prefer the older model with less plastic on the front.
ACC garage is top-notch but very very pricy... they quoted my GX build as much as 3 times higher than other guys... just FYI.

Yeah, I hate dealing with used car dealers... doc fees. spray paint the undercarriage to hide the rust...
Guess, I have to search harder..

Very honest seller and MUD member... indeed.
Yeah, cash always wins...

private seller via autotrader or cars.com, it's been a few years so I don't remember exactly. The price was already good on a high miles LX. I just offered the full amount. How much lower than $17,500 was it ever going to be, right?
used a car inspection service (didn't really do much but put the 'feel good about it' on the sale). Had to educate the seller on the wonders of escrow and auto-transport.

Seller later indicated I wasn't the first to respond, but I was the first to respond without immediately throwing the nickels and dimes. I think the ad was three hours old when I responded.

good luck!

It has been a couple of years now, but I looked at LCs for months and then started looking at LXs. There were a few around the country and then one day, three popped up for sale in the bay area - 2008, 2013, and 2015, all in gray which was my preferred color. Go figure. the 08 and 15 were at a Lexus dealer out in east bay and were both in great condition. I would have bought either on the spot but my wife found the 13 at Carmax on our drive out to look at the first two. It was 15k less than the 15, and was mostly identical. It had 30k more miles. We called Carmax and they held it for us for 7 days, no questions asked. A couple of days later we went to look at it and bought it on the spot. I know some people dislike Carmax, but that was the least painful car buying experience I have ever had. No pressure, no upselling, no nothing. They offered to hold it for another 7 days so we could look around.

Dang.... $17.5K for LX? that's an impossible price these days.
Thanks for the tips... very stressful but hope to find one soon :(

Yeah, already hate dealing with new car dealers but I'm sure used car dealers are even worse...
Carmax and Carvana prices are always a few thousand $ higher than the typical private seller or small lot used car dealers.
However, at least you're getting a good vehicle and no BS to worry about... thanks for the advice!

I had been looking for awhile back in 2019 and pretty much gave up, I put an offer on a local lx470. Fortunately that deal fell through as I found an lx570 that night 500 miles away at a toyota dealer. I jumped on a plane and bought it the next day. I'm so glad the deal fell through on the 470.

My friend has a heavily modified LX470...
Unfortunately, it's just too slow and seems like LX570 is better in every way... IMHO.

Just short of 210k miles on a 2009. Averaged over 20k per year.. . .I was building it anyway, so as long as it was mechanically sound it was no biggee.
I can provide details on inspection, transport, escrow if you end up in a private distance sale. I would of course recommend seeing the rig before you pay. That’s the best option.

I also tried to buy a 100tlc and a lx470 but the prices kept going up and the 200 was only a couple thousand more.

Exactly. This is why i got a CPI 570 in 2020 from a Lexus dealer with a 2.5 yr warranty after dumping my rust bucket.
I got in right before prices went astronomical. I don't know if anybody should be buying used right now.
There is just too much fraud and competition and the prices dont even make sense.

I know this forum is looking for specific things but buy new if you can.
If i was in anyones shoes here currently searching for a 200 i would skip for now and wait for the new LX to see some 570s trade in. Would say the same thing about LC but that is obviously out of realm of possibility now.

In other news looks like Porsche Cayenne overland builds are a thing now and they are pretty cheap. LOL
