Where did this insulation come from?

My 200 had been mostly sitting since September, and I got in today and once the heat started, it smelled pretty strongly of mouse. So I checked the cabin air filter, and there was quite a bit of insulation mouse nest on top of the filter.

I got it cleared out and a new filter installed, but I’m wondering where this insulation came from and if I need to repair something else…

Any ideas?

I’ve had the same thing twice. It’s most likely from insulation in the wheel housing/fender/firewall. No particular need to replace it. Check your engine air filter and the area under the intake manifold because the mice love those places too.

Engine air filter was clean, I’ll check the intake manifold, thank you!

Id be looking for rodent droppings. Looks like you might have had something try to set up house in there.

The plastic fender liners above the front tires have that stuff stuck on top. Really not sure why it's there, I can't imagine is does much for sound control. Here's what I found when I pulled mine off earlier this year:

I just ripped it all out from both sides.

You should also add a piece of screen above the HVAC intake under the cowling. There's a good thread here that talks about how to do it, with photos.
