Ok this is the deal. I chopped off my exhaust resinator thing because I had Ken Hanna install a new bumper for me and now the whine is driving my crazy on the freeway. You don't notice it as much as low speeds, but on the freeway it sounds like a vietnam war trick to fxxx with the enemys head..I know I could just turn the radio up but damn silence is sweet sometimes also...I know man-a-fre used to have one...Borla has one..Maybe...But I think 700 bones is to Bling for me..Plus they still have the resinator on the end still..I could always go custom, but thought maybe there was a direct bolt in ready to go..Chime in if you have any ideas..

I think an OEM replacent is only like 400 and it comes with a lifetime warranty if the dealer install it...if you live in a rust belt then that makes a lifetime warranty even sweeter

It won't work...I have to have the resinator off the exhaust because of the new hanna bumper.., so OEM is out.. thanks anyway..

lol....didnt catch that end where u said that....i think custom is going to be the only way.

I am experiencing the same issue...imagine listening to that whistle for a 5,000 road trip! I had to remove my resonator due to the rear bumper. I'm trying to figure out if I can somehow reattach the stock resonator using flexible exhaust pipe. What would be great if there was a smaller diameter muffler that I can use. It could be longer just not as fat!

solution for your exhaust whine...

Extensive sonic resonation testing has proven that the main cause of higher frequency feedback (the whine) is an overly large, shiny, bald skull. Perhaps you could find a toupee to soften the sound waves in the cabin area...

hope this helps,

Borla cat-backs are everywhere on the web for $375-450:

Beware though, the one I installed on my last 80 (Todd Kaderabek's truck) wouldn't fit for s*&t and making the brackets line up took some work.

assuming you exhuast system is still in good shape seams to me the cheapest fix would be to go to your local exhuast shop and get a new muffler, from past posts I have read that should get rid of the whistle. wile you are there get them to rework the tailpipe for a side eject or something to get the gasses to go overboard and not all-over the the underside, exhuast gasses are corrosive

should be much sheaper than a cat back system that you would have modify anyway

A Borla cat-back won't work, it fits just like the OEM system. I wouldn't recommend one, they have a annoying drone on acceleration and at freeway speeds. I took mine off and went OEM.
Any decent muffler shop can add the resonator for probably around $100-150.

If i get the slee rear bumper will i have to redoo my exhaust like yalls?

No - there is no problem. You might want to trim the end since it now will be the first spot to contact the ground when going through a big dip.

I went to my local muffler shop asking for a small muffler and showed them my oem one. They just scratched their head and said that they don't have one that small. If anyone has a small muffler in mind, please let me know!

Christo had a borla a few years back and went wheeling with it and on tip over challenge he slid back due to bad tires. When he did that he bent the borla up real bad because it just plan hung lower and I had to use a high lift handle to work it back and forth until it broke. Lots of wasted money. Besides it hangs in the same spot as the OEM stuff. no real suggestions except to find a custom shop to help you. later robbie

Sounds like custom is the only way to go..I need to get it done before I end up going on a long trip some where..I could just see me driving for 5 hours and blood flowing out of my ears from hearing the whine...Hey by the way thanks Jimmy for all your help not bad advice for someone who doesnt even own a Land Cruiser..
