I am not ready to go to the LED's just yet. but I would like to save my night vision. can anybody tell me where to get dome lights for the 80 in a red color. Thanks

Squiggy

Why would you need red dome lights? Are you planning to make a disco-party inside your 80? Maybe you also need a glass ball for sparkle effect?

But seriously, why do you want red light inside your cruiser? Is there something I don't know?

Some transparent red tape on yer current dome lights should do the trick if yer lookin' to go cheep! :hillbilly:

Mike PL: the reason is night vision and I have sensitive eyes.:princess:

TT: RED TAPE ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! the wife would kill me!!! plus I dont what to be a topic of some Elvis song (in the getto).:flipoff2:

I ordered red LEDS from this company for the doors. I like the visibility for parking on the street. http://www.theledlight.com/

They are the wedge style and plug and play . Because of the type of the connection in the dome lights you might have a little tougher time finding something that is plug and play. Contact george (search online) and maybe he can fab something up for you.

Otto Von Squiggy, why not buy the LED dome lights and replace the white LEDs with your own red LEDs?

They are usually at Checker / Autozone.

I bought some at autozone - "xtreme lites"

They were not bright enough to find anything in the console, but they were cheap enough to try. I think you would have to get some LEDs to be bright enough to actually see anything with the red light.

Color the current bulb with a red Sharpie marker. No joke. Works great for dash lights that have the little green cap on them (when you loose it). I'd do a trial on it first, I'm thinking the white light from the filament and the red might give you a lovely pink hue. :princess:

No. Use tuck tape.

Just be careful where you are when they are on. You can be cited for having a red light visible from the front of your vehicle.

so you are telling me that people would think that I am a police car because I have a red dome light on?:flipoff2: I am going to get behind someone and flip it on and off and see if they stop.

My concern would not be what people would think, it's what that guy in the car with the big red lights thinks.

You also might be accused of soliciting a prostitute with that thing on!

I was at a truck stop over the weekend and saw a ton of colored bulbs. You're right about saving your night vision, that's why the military uses red light readable maps and issues flashlights with different colored lens inserts. When I was in the Army we would use red nail polish on our mag light bulbs since they were brighter than the standard issue flashlights. Worked just fine for us.

Red lighting is also standard on fishing boats that go out at night. It definitely works.

You should give a marine store a shot, since the fishermen know all about the red not impacting night vision.

lots of airplanes have the red lights too for night. But they also have regular lights you can turn on. Cause the red lights just are not bright enough.

Why do you drive around at night with you dome light on? Its generally just instrument lights that are made red to save your eyes.
