Hey guys will be taking a quick trip to my parents mountain house in little switzerland ( close to spruce pine ) next week. Since I'll be taking the lx I wanted to wheel some place for a day. Where would you guys recommend for a stock lx on 33's and someone who doesn't have heaps of off road driving under his belt ? Thanks for any suggestions

Really only one place to wheel in the state. Uwharrie..... post up a date and i'm sure some people will meet you out there .

Looking at going the 15th or 16th if anyone could make if not any suggestions of what trails I should stick to ?

Where are you coming from - you might pass a spot somewhere, but Al is pretty correct about URE largely being it for NC.

I don't think you're gonna find much beyond gravel or dirt roads unless you want to drive 3+ hours. There are some pretty long dirt roads around the Lake James area (if my memory is correct), but they're just roads.

My wife and I love Little Switzerland and the area around it. The Alpine Inn is a great little cheap place, and 2 of the rooms are right on the side of the mountain cliff. It's pure awesome to open the windows and let the clouds come right into the room then walk onto the balcony and lose all sense of location.

FYI - There's a section of Blue Ridge Parkway closed for some major repairs. The road is actually opening up and separating. I'm not sure where that is, the AVL newspaper left that little tidbit out of the article. It also didn't say how long the detour was.

We have two OHV parks.

1. is Brown Mt. but that is mostly for dirt bikes and quads. The one truck trail there is long and has great scenery and views from the top but only 1 or 2 places where you would actually need 4wd.

2. is Uwharrie. with your mods and level of driving you'd be fine on all the trails except Daniel

There is also beach driving on the coast.

Black Balsam and places like Hurricane creek have some off the beaten path places that are nice and scenic but nothing too technical.

We used to have more places to wheel but sadly they have been systematically shut down in the last 5 years :crybaby:

Brock did Daniel in his LX with 33s and sliders only. So it can be done too. :)

but yes, not for a noob.

i think he was just Atrac at the time. . . wouldent swear to it though.

When though? That first ledge has been so different every time I've seen it the last couple years, I never know what to expect... nasty or I40.

i think it was about 2 years ago or so.

Did some of the Daniel traversing to another trail on my horse a couple months ago. Never locked her in once but did have to kick the stirrups a little here and there. She did have new shoes on though :D Uwharrie is good but it has had some pretty good rain wash this year.

I've done it in a open-open 40, with no sliders... just saying...:D But that was a long time ago...

Yeah it's a little different now ;)

Heck. Back in the early 90's i took a S-10 with 36 inch tires on all trails with locker in the rear and open front. Never one issue and never thought about body damage on it up there. Now not so much.

so.... are you gonna make it to URE? when?
