Wheel Spacers a Good Idea??

Hello, i was thinking of putting spacers on my LJ78 . I thought this may help stability off roading with a full load, and make it look better.
Many people say they cause no problems but it seems likely they will put extra stress on the wheel bearings.
Are the wheel bearings on these tough enough to cope or is it a bad idea?
