what's with that? seems like there have been a number of posts in the last few weeks with engines or trucks flat out refusing to budge or with serious problems.
Much more so than usual, it seems. Used to be everybody was worried about what oil to use. Now it's being worried about getting the rig started or going...

Lotsa of new people with trouble heard this is the mecca for answers?
These rigs are suddenly getting old?
Cosmic radiation?
Me getting old? (don't even go there...)

Kinda detract from the notion that these are very reliable.

80s are horribly unreliable.
Sell yours quickly. Get another 100.
Get out while you can! Once everyone finds out how much they suck, you'll never be able to sell yours.

Some of the posts have gotten me a little worried too, E...

but I'd bet that more are turning to the net and boards like this, and I'm sure some PO neglect is surfacing here and there....and just remember, if LCs have problems, just think about what Fords and Chevys are doing to theirs!!

I can only hope some are normal issues and we will hear about easy fixes soon, the only ones really worrying me are the valve-seals issues and other intrusive repairs......

I want to just worry about the pros and cons of using Redline or what to do about that high idle after start-up kind of stuff....

As far as cosmic radiation goes, does tin foil hats help with that?

80s are tough, but have their weak points just like every other vehicle (head gasket, easily clogged radiators, EFI relay, PHH, potential for leaky front-end, starter contacts/plunger). Some view them as weak points, others as routine maintenance items.

yes, but that's not helping much here. You gotta cover the whole truck in Al foil.
DO NOT BE MISLED! The Saran Wrap that BW et al. are using WILL NOT WORK! This is sheer nonsense.

Anyway, I don't wear an Al foil hat anymore, I've come to my senses and realized that it's the Al foil underwear that is critical, of course... (and people wonder why I crinkle...)

Maybe someone should start a poll?

P.S. My 80 still rocks.

Seems like it's been more a case of the un-enlightened finding out that you've got to replace starter contacts every 100k, than serious problems.

Maybe I missed those other threads with motors puke'n.

Doug already figgured it out...%$#@^

And since Dan still has to do VooDoo in manual mode, his enthusiasm is inversely related to his department's budget. The more he sells to mudders through normal maintenance, the less often he has to resort to VooDoo to increase demand.

I need to order up a set of brade pads pronto!

Damn!!! Thinking of ordering the FSM, contacts, and 100 series brake pads....

Now I have to worry about the BRADE pads, too? Great. Just Great.

all 80's are getting along in age..........they are just getting old.........chit happens.

I think everyone is starting to buy them for wheeling, etc and dealing with the fun of POs and with things we all took care of a long time ago. I wonder how many of the posts E was worries about are from people new to the board and new to 80s? I bet they are almost all that way.
