What's up with the Hollister Hills?

I'm up in the North (SF) Bay, and it sounds like the Hollister Hills are the closest place where you can get out in the dirt. Can someone fill me in on it? How big is it? Where's the entrance? What are the rules for overnighting? Is it always really noisy at night, or can you get away and make your own noise? Is there a web site that answers some of this stuff? I couldn't find it.

You might be better off heading up towards hwy 88 or hwy 4 if you want a few nice trails away from the hollister hills crowds.

HH is okay, IMHO, but once you've done it a couple times...you're pretty much done.

What city are you in?

Doug, what are your favorite trails off of hwy 88 and 4?

Niagara Rim is great. By now it should be covered in snow. We went there this summer. We had a blast. However, in the wintertime you can go snow wheeling int the area. Something we should consider.

Alvaro

Fine maps -- thanks. Did you mean to post some other links, Doug? You mention info and reviews, but the only links I see are to those maps.

Thanks for the Maps, I'll have to put these on my "To Do" list.

Deer Valley Trail's nice
I heard Corral Hollow's nice, but pretty easy

Here's some info on a few trails.
The reviews of the trails are decent.
The pdf maps are really nice.

Here are photos of Deer Valley trail creek crossing then camping at Strawberry trail, starting from south (Hwy 4) and ended up at Hwy 50. It can be done reverse. Scale of difficulty, 6 out of 10.

Cheers,

Beautiful. What time of year was that, Snook? Did you see a lot of other people? Wonder what it looks like now.

Actually I think San Anselmo is more beautiful to go for long sunday walk to the top of golden hill overlook San Anselmo downtown and a tiny peek at George Lucas's home on the other nearby hill surrunded with palm trees across Sir Francis Drake road. :D

I used to live there ten years ago and still missed this place. :frown:

The last time we went on Deer Valley trail was two or three years ago. At first, we had a blast time so we went back again in two weeks! But the trail conditions changed alot in this time frame. At that time, there are very few rigs and offroad bikers, all went south direction. But now I assumed it is more popular now since then.

Cheers,

Yeah, it's a great place to walk, and it just gets better going out toward West Marin. They won't let you take your truck onto the fire roads anymore, though.

I thought I put the home page link in there.

Here it is: www.californiajeeper.com -- ignore the heep stuff...go to the trail/trail review section.
