Took my fugly running boards off today. Now I have a new sore-eye not to say a great piece of metal to hook a rock or anchor the 100. What's it for? Can I take it off without affecting God knows what?
Here it is:

Don't remove that thing no matter what anybody says! Your LC will become ridiculously unstable. I don't know what it does, but I took mine off and threw it away. 2 days later, I was at the dealer buying a new one.

It's a vibration dampening device. I believe there is a thread on this in the FAQ. It prevents the running boards from vibrating when you're driving down the road because it will scratch against the body of the truck which will begin your losing battle with rust.

That's right B3A5T, this is a rough bunch and that's what they appreciate.

I asked the same thing a couple of weeks ago. They must all be recovering from Father's Day celebrations

K my bad. Went to FAQ section and found my answer

Funny thing is that there is no solid answer therefore I'll keep it bc I don't want to flip, have crazy vibrations or perhaps make her lean .

I think I'll paint it a bright color to create some interest :meh: And tell the curious it's the flux capacitor. Maybe add some LEDs

No that's not it. It's that the question gets asked about once every 2-3 weeks. Every week. For years. And it gets a little old when a quick search or flipping through a few pages would answer the question. I actually respect the fact that most of the guys here just play along and rib a little or just simply ignore the question as opposed to being flagrant a**holes every time the question gets asked. After you've been looking at a forum for a few years and you see the kind of questions constantly like "what color plastidip should I pick?" or "is 100k a lot of miles on these things?" or "what is this thing underneath my truck and will it blow up if I remove it?" it just gets a little old. That's all! :deadhorse:

Dont forget the "what size tires will fit on my LC?"

I took that thing off and now I get 36 mpg.

I'd worry more about the one on the driver's side that's obviously fallen off. ;)

I read all the warnings about not taking this marvelous engineering mishap off and when I took my running boards off, you'd never guess what I couldn't help doing.....Yup. I just had to remove that stone age tracking device. That deep sea trolling weight.
*******, I'm still looking for the button To release this F***in anchor when I'm traveling recklessly down a 6% grade. Just when you thought Toyota was top notch ingenuity, You realize that the brilliant engineers working countless hours on a tiny island in the pacific, gave the 100 series LAND(Yacht)CRUISER the amazing upgrade of having an anchor WITH NO BUTTON to engage the damn thing. It really is a great idea though, seeing as the parking brake tends to be taken right out of the Prius, which makes perfect sense. So, long story short, if anyone figures out how to engage the anchor, a well written write up would be great. FAQ just waiting to happen. When I removed the damn thing, my car actually Shimmied on the freeway. For some reason a shimmy feels so much more unsafe than its more benign cousin, vibration.
To all my 100 series pirates out tharrrrrgh, and anchors Away!!!
